Natural clothing style question

Hello! I really love the style of clothing that I rarely see on the street, it can be described as clothing for an overcast maritime climate, away from big cities, where there is beautiful nature and many sheep A mixture of British sweaters and loose dresses, slightly wavy hair, no make-up. It's like I'm sitting in a cozy wooden house, reading books and cooking on fire. What is it? Vintage? Outdoor? Country? Can i use "natural" for definition?

I see a bit of Cottagecore, and a bit of Lagenlook - but without the affectations and posturings I feel I've seen when I looked at these aesthetics online. I think "Natural" is wonderful, but I also feel that, as the creator of your own aesthetic and likings, you get to choose the name, and it can be as many or as few words as you like. Although to me, "Maritime" is a big key element in your photos.

And even though I don't see it in the photos, I think Fair Isle sweaters, Harris tweeds and Scots tartans would be apropos for this aesthetic.

My grandmother was English, and I have some of her clothes from WWII. The cardigans and skirts of that era are similar to your photos, so you might also try and dig up vintage rural photos from the 1930s and 40s in coastal Britain, Greenland, Iceland, Norway, Denmark, etc. and see if anything resonates.

I love this look. I think these days it’d be called cottagecore. Or maybe Land Girls, after the British Women’s Land Army during the war (WWII). I think Natural would take you down an unsatisfactory Google search path. It’s more ‘farm’ and ‘moors’ than ‘nature’ and ‘country’, in style terms.

I found a Wikipedia page called British Country Clothing that could be of use to you: it said the look is most associated with English country clothing.

I like these looks also, though I wear almost no dresses of skirts- and if did,would need serious woolen tights.
But a favorite look has always been midiskirt with fluffy sweater.
I can see this overlap with the Garnet Hill catalog and with some Ralph Lauren.

Yes, I was also thinking cottage core, country style, cottage twee/country twee is something mentioned on TikTok quite a bit apparently.

I like what Mary Beth said, that you can call it whatever you want:-)

Yes, agree British Countryside is what comes to mind, but cottagecore would be a good key word if you are searching online.

This is the look I'd see my classmates in growing up (in rural England)! I'd call it British preppy, as opposed to American prep (which is a lot more polished & less practical looking) - it's a common look on WASP teenagers, especially equestrian driven ones.

Websites that I've seen touch on this aesthetic are Country Attire & Foxholes Country Pursuits - brands in particular include Welligogs & Fat Face (Joules & White Stuff get an honourable mention for their knitwear too, but they tend to stock brighter colours).

Definitely countryside, retro, romantic.

The style reminds me of TV series featuring life in the British countryside decades ago. (e.g. the series "Heartbeat"). Also a favourite current style among many younger women here in Scandinavia, where various elements of "natural" will always be popular.

@RoseandJoan You're right - heritage is a better word for 'preppy' in this instance!

I am drawn to the simpler versions of this, more British country vs cottagecore. If you’re looking for sources, FatFace, Celtic & Co, Barbour, and SeaSalt Cornwall come to mind. I have clothes from the first three sources that I have been very pleased with.

A brand called Simple Retro keeps showing me ads, and has a bit of a similar vibe, although also leaning ‘grandmillennial’. I like your examples better due to the sweaters. I have seen a rack of beautiful vintage UK sweaters at a local store, I think they were around $100 but if you consider the quality it’s probably fair. That was prepandemic I think so probably even more now (between trends, overhead increases and inflation).
Actually on review it’s not just the sweaters but the many rich textures in your photos - flannel, cord, suede. And there’s a vintage, aged effect. Something that’s hard to duplicate buying all new I think. Also the UK weather lends itself to transitional layers. In my climate it’s mostly summer or winter with limited shoulder seasons for such layering.

I really liked the first picture and had to go and look up the film. I must watch it sometime. I really like the look too but would modify it to suit my lifestyle etc
