I asked Angie for some advice on these shoes, as my work shoe options are really meager. For long days of interviewing or focus groups, wedges would be great. What do you think of these? I know they would work with navy. But black?

I'm not fond of brown and black, unless that's reflected across the whole outfit. I also think the wavy wedges are not that formal for work purposes but perhaps if you're doing qualitative research you want to come off as approachable anyway.

I just saw these on Angie's list and pretend bought them if that helps! I am not sure about wearing them with just black, but with black in the mix why not?

Haha Crutcher! I completely get that! I think that after I make my final decisions on boyshorts and these shoes, I have to jump on YLF altogether for a few days so I don't buy anything else. I'm already committed to a no-buy August as it is.

Ummilla, you are right that I dress for approachablility, so my attire is really business casual (and even very relaxed denim when interviewing tradesmen). I'm never corporate -- I just don't work in that world.

Still mulling over the brown/black thing.

I tried these and rejected them because they made my feet look tiny. (I have a thing about my feet being too small for the rest of my body.) I imagine some people will like this aspect of them.

Cinnamon Fern: are your feet tiny? I have very average size feet, I think. If they made my feet seem slightly smaller it would be fine I think.

I'm 5' 4", 125 pounds, size 5 in sandals ... sometimes I convince myself this is a normal size, and then some yoga teacher says "what cute little feet you have"!

CF, I think your feet are objectively small for your height!

I like these a lot and think they would work with black if intentionally styled (i.e. other browns in outfit) -- but I worry about that peep toe. For me it would mean a short window of wear. I like the look....just not the wearability. Although the wedge does keep you off the ground which helps on damp days. Still, once we get into fall, I like my toes covered.

I think they are uber cool. If they were black they'd be mine too. I also, however, have a small window of wear for this type of shoe (thus I have none). It gets wet so quickly here that the peep toe/sandal becomes unwearable so quickly. Very edgy and cool looking though...

FWIW, I see these as being totally you, Viva. I like the brown/black combo, too. I think it would look great with an all black ensemble and give it an unexpected "zing" or bit of edge. I also think it would be versatile and work with a lot of other things in your wardrobe.

My teen and 20-something daughters and their friends all wore black (leggings, yoga pants, skirts, dresses) with brown boots last winter. We moms had a poison eye for it at first, but it seems to be quite acceptable, and current in the upper midwest of the USA. I am a HUGE Donald J Pliner footwear fan (super comfortable!), and the only thing keeping these cute wedges in my cart, instead of on their way to me, is the peep toe. And only because I want to slack off on keeping my toes presentable during fall, winter and early spring!

Suz, I appreciate your level head about the peep toe. Here's the thing. They're definitely not good for wearing at home (Maine) after October, but work travel will definitely take me to warmer points -- and likely to Texas or Florida or California in November, January, February .... wouldn't these work in those places at those times?

I think you can wear these with black due to the black wedge. I don't know if they are the right shoe though because of other reasons mentioned. You could wear them when you travel but as a minimalist would you get more use out of closed toe? Would you feel better if they were black?

Elle: another voice of reason. You are right. I am backing away. On balance, waiting for the right pair of wedges, with a closed toe, in black, makes more sense.

Have you checked out Fly London? Their wedge soles are almost identical to these and perhaps you could find a closed toe style in black that tickles your fancy.
