NAS shoes shopping report (long)

Here is my report from my NAS shoe appointment (clothing is scheduled for tomorrow). Such a fun time!

Sam Edelman python booties
These are delicious! And comfy! They didn’t have the python in my size, but I tried on a different color and it fit well, so I ordered the python. VERY excited about this one – it was the item that excited me the most when I first looked at the catalog, so I’m thrilled that they lived up to my expectations.

Sam Edelman python boots
STUNNING. I was set on trying them on, even though I knew the chance I’d buy them was slim – and I did pass in the end. They are more of a “show stopper” than a “wardrobe workhorse” item, and since I do need boots who can fulfill the latter purpose I just couldn’t justify the purchase. Also, it would be a bit much to have two footwear items in the same python print, right? These do look great, though – they would rock with a black wrap dress. I hope someone else buys them so I can live vicariously through you! These are tall; almost too tall for me but it just worked, they ended just below the knee cap.

Frye Melissa Trapunto boots
Beautiful boots. I’m tempted, but not really looking for a cognac boot, so I passed for now.

Steve Madden Bankker boots
I tried these because I love the “Natural Leather” color – exactly the kind of color I am looking for. The buckle is removable; you can just slip it off the boot (which I would do permanently, as I didn’t care for it). Comfortable and very fun. I wasn’t 100% sure about them, mostly due to the nubuk leather – it’s a bit trickier than regular leather in Seattle, at least for me.

Josef Seibel sneaker
This fills a wardrobe gap for me: a comfortable casual walking shoe. Ordered it in red and just hope that the color is as vibrant in real life as it is online (they didn’t have any reds in the store).

Munro slip-on sandal
Another wardrobe gap filled: a flat versatile sandal. Very comfortable, will work with everything for casual and smart casual occasions. Great timing, since my former flat sandals just broke and summer has only just started in Seattle.

Metallic flats: Born Molly and Franco Sarto
I’m looking for a replacement for my former Me Too pewter flats, which were so comfy and so versatile. Neither of these NAS pairs fit quite right: the Born was slightly loose, and the Franco Sarto was slightly tight (in both cases not enough to warrant a different size). I liked the Born better for the slightly distressed leather look and for the shape (not as round as the Franco Sarto ones); the Franco Sarto were shiny and looked a bit “cheaper” even though I liked the buckles. I might just buy another pair of Me Too flats again (but not the NAS ones, Me Too Lysette – their sole is thinner and they are too “ballet”-like for me). Or I could try the pricier Stuart Weizmann Adaptable flats – they look great but I’m not sure whether I’m ready to pay more than double what I would usually spend on a pair of flats.

In summary, I ended up with 3 pairs of shoes – the Sam Edelman booties, the Josef Seibel sneaker, and the Munro sandal, one of which (booties) is super exciting and the other two are perfectly practical. No boots, but I wasn’t set on boots anyway since I’m looking for a pretty specific color (very light beige/sand) so this will probably take some time and effort later this fall.

Oh Antje, thanks so much! I've been eargerly awaiting a report on the NAS footwear situation;-)

The python booties are fantastic, and it's great to hear they are so comfortable. I think quite a few of us will be wearing these beauties this year. And I completely agree with your reasoning about the tall python boots.

The sneakers and sandals are both wonderful, and it's clear that you'll be getting so much use out of them.
Sorry to hear the flats weren't quite right, but all in all I think you scored big time!

Also: how fun that you are going back for a second session tomorrow. Do keep us posted, please.

Thanks for those reviews Antje! The only item that grabbed me were the python boots, and I know myself well enough to pass on them....they'd get maybe 1 use per year! They are definitely show-stopping, and I hope someone here buys them!

Seems like SO many people have bought the Sam Edelman python booties (myself included)! I wasn't able to try on in-store and could only order one of my sizes online, so I'm hoping that it runs TTS and not too narrow. The price is twice what I've paid in the past for shoes, other than tall boots, so I hope they live up to my expectations.

I am another one who ordered the python booties--can't wait to see them on Monday when they arrive! I loved the look of the tall python ones too, but the heel height was just too much for me and I just didn't think they'd be versatile enough.

I love the red sneakers too! I have a pair of the Born Molly shoes that I bought last year. They are okay, but flats aren't very comfortable for me and these are no exception.

I hope the red shoes work out for you!

Thanks for the reviews. I, too, have had an eye out for a versatile flat sandal and may have to try the Munros on your suggestion.
FWIW, I tried on the Stuart Weitzman flats and found them to be very thin-feeling on the sole, so I'm wondering if they are made differently than the similar style I've seen before. They were definitely not as supportive feeling to me as the AGLs (which are not super supportive themselves).

I am going to be envious of everyone with those snakeskin booties, although the knee-highs really are show stoppers. I have to say I am a little disappointed you didn't get the Steve madden boots because they are gorgeous, although I can understand the hesitation. I do wear nubuck boots in a similar climate and it works out okay for me (sprays are amazing things), but if you really emphasize a tip-top polish look, then it would probably be more dangerous. All in all it looks like a shopping well and smartly done!

I love those python booties, but I stopped myself because I decided I'd rather have a pair that is a little darker in color, like a gray (easier for me to work with considering my coloring and my wardrobe). What are the chances I'll find some, I wonder? Python is big now, so I'm hoping I'll find something.

However, I'm really glad so many of you are getting them! I'll live vicariously through you in the meantime. And the tall python boot? Ah! So tempting...

My mom was really skeptical about them in the catalogue - she didn't think they looked attractive - and I told her I knew people who would make them sing.

Your post is timely. I was just about to surf the NAS site for shoes to preview. I know how you feel about the Weitzman flats - they were the only thing i loved in catalog though. I am looking to replace my beloved Me Too pewters as well but they were such a workhorse shoe that I think I am justified in spending more on replacements.
