NAS petite sizing frustrations

A quick glance suggests that there are literally no coats, jackets and blazers in petite sizes this year at NAS. Of all the clothing types that are difficult, if not impossible, to alter to fit petite sizes, jackets and coats are at the top of the list. I find this quite frustrating and wonder if this is a trend towards reduced availability of petite sizes in general at Nordstrom.

That's so disappointing, and a little surprising to me, honestly.

I noticed that an item I've been eyeing from the flyer has not made it onto their presale website yet -- maybe things will be added? Holding out hope for you.

I'm holding out hope that sizes will be better represented in the actual sale. It's frustrating, for sure, and will cause shoppers to look elsewhere.

So disappointing- my local Nordi reduced amount of petite offerings a while ago. I asked SA “Where are petite sizes?” and she said that there’s no petite section anymore- just a little bit everywhere- somewhere. So sad.

Sarah, that's really disappointing .....the petite section at the flagship is two racks, and a few scattered items. Very annoying.

And to Janet's and Suz's point - surprising. Perhaps it will improve. Holding thumbs.

You might like to mention this on the Nordies FB page. They are quite responsive.

Making your thoughts known is a good idea, but in the meantime, spend your $ at retailers who are still committed to offering options for petites.

- All the Gap brands, including the Factory labels
- Ann Taylor and Loft, also including the Factory labels
- Talbots
- Lafayette 148
- Eileen Fisher
- LL Bean
- J Crew for winter coats, blazers and jeans

I think sweaters are the hardest, since they can’t be altered.

I stopped checking Nordstrom for petite clothes years ago. They are consistently lacking.

Nordstrom Canada does not really have a selection of petite sizes. They have a few sizes in Club Monaco fashions, a smattering of Eileen Fisher and few in their Zella brand. Really disappointing.

It seems to me there are less petites sizes everywhere in the last few years, especially in brick and mortar but even online the selection is often sparse. When it comes to coats, jackets, and cardigans I try to only buy petite. They are usually bigger $$ than my other purchases and, as you said, much harder to alter. Very frustrating.

Ryce, I definitely shop all of those stores for petites. In past NASs, I have had such good luck with coats and blazers - they have been one of the main reasons I have shopped the NAS, since they tend to be "big-ticket" items. I guess I'll have to adjust my expectations.

I ended up becoming quite a fan of Nordstrom's over the years in part b/c that they both carried petites and offered free shipping and returns, since our nearest mall is several hours away. It was discouraging to visit a Nordstrom in person a couple years ago and discover they had removed the petite section and merged all the clothes into the regular sizing, made my trip much less efficient. since I had tacked my visit onto a work trip and was exhausted and still facing hours of driving I headed straight to Talbots and then got back on the road... I know you pay for free S&R in other ways but I really appreciated it, esp the last few years as it's taken a lot of trial and error to figure out what works on my post childbirth body. I think I'll have to adjust my expectations as well to remember that when I pay for return shipping it's still a lot cheaper than the gas I would have paid to go to the mall.

A few other stores that carry petites: Macy's, Boden (although I wish they went up to larger sizes in petites). Also Karen Kane, although the options are limited and I haven't tried them yet (I often do well in their non petite dresses but find myself swimming in her tops).

I’ve not had much success with Nordstrom, with needing petite sizes and wide width shoes (for most brands). Two exceptions are BlankNYC regular size toppers have worked well and Kit from the Cloth petite denim jacket. But I have few other Nordstrom purchases except scarves. I hate that I am mostly limited to online shopping for most stores that carry petites but will go into stores to check colors and fabrics before ordering to improve my chances of success.

Interesting article about size inclusivity at Nordstrom’s. Problems I have encountered as a shopper interested in petites is that petites are only offered in a fraction of the styles. I constantly find something I’m interested in, only to find it isn’t offered in petite sizing, in store or online. It would be helpful if the store could flag collections that include petites. Petite sizing should not really be included with regular sizes to address inclusivity: petites apply more to how the garment is tailored to shorter women (hem, waist) across a broad range of sizes.
