Hi,

I have a habit of forgetting about business outfits since my job is mostly casual. And then on those "once in a blue moon" days I have to dress up I am often scrambling for an outfit.

I've tried many peplum tops since the trend started and this is the first time I found one where I felt the waist wasn't too high on me.

Do you really wear this outfit with both pieces together? Online the top is paired with the skirt.

I think shortening the pants will make all of the difference, Lisa. Nice ensemble. I think a third component like a jacket will help break it up--or even shoes. I like it. Of course, I am queen casual so will defer to others more savvy than me!

Yes, I would get the trousers shortened. I like the outfit, and like kellygirl suggested, a jacket/blazer/sweater will make it look business - perfect!

I think the shortening will help but I would also like to see the size up in the pants: I think they are a bit tight in the rear...but that may be my personal preference.

The top is really nice on you, Lisa. Very different from your usual style and a great change. The grey should work well for you.

For myself, personally, I wouldn't wear this top with these pants. It looks as if the length will be better with skirts, for one thing. But also it just feels like a lot of pattern, even though the pattern is very muted. I (personally) would feel "costumed" in it. But I also think it is tough to tell without seeing the pants shortened and with footwear. That might provide some needed structure.

Wearing it with a matching skirt would definitely work, to my mind. The extra skin showing would offer the structure and the length wouldn't be a problem.

I do think wearing a contrasting topper could also break it up enough. But it can sometimes be tough to find the right topper for a peplum. I have a peplum top which I love and I have found it doesn't play well with every jacket in the closet.

I do like the pants, too, by the way.

Karie-Thanks! I'll have to see which toppers will work against the peplum.

Sveta-Thanks! My bum is my friend for fitting jeans and my nemesis for fitting trousers. The waist on these trousers is loose (which I look for in trousers otherwise the bum is skin tight). I'll try one more size up but I think that will be too baggy. Sometimes when I go up too large I end up with baggy butt.

Suz-Thanks! I wonder if that's why peplum hasn't been working for me? I am not a skirt gal, and maybe it's just a skirt topper. I'll have to try the top with skinny jeans and see if that works any better. If it's a skirt only topper it'll have to be returned.

Lisa, I wear my peplum top with jeans as well as skirts. But mine is a bit longer and a different fabrication (knit) so it is a bit different in the way it looks.

I like the top quite a lot but the pants not as much. I think the top would be great with a black pencil skirt or as Suz said even with jeans on casual days.
