NAS First Try Ons: Keep or Return

I didn't order a lot from the NAS this year but this is my first set of try ons. I absolutely love the green earrings-- I am keeping those and they do not appear in any of the photos. (Please excuse my hair in these photos-- I tried everything on after hours outside wearing my sun hat, so hat hair was in full effect.)

1+2: Calson striped cardigan. I was trying to emulate some inspiration outfits I saw online with striped and polka dot cardigans over graphic or brightly colored tees. But I'm not sure this is it-- I'm leaning towards returning this cardigan. I think maybe the length isn't quite right or maybe it feels too preppy? The inspiration photos certainly didn't have such a chunky knit. Thoughts?

1+3+4: Kut from the Kloth Catherine Girlfriend Jeans (I am having technical difficulties with the YLF Collect button so did not add these to the finds.) I've worn the Catherine Girlfriend Jeans for a very long time. I'm wearing my current pair in photo 2. I love the dark wash of these and the longer length which allows for a wider cuff than my current pair. But am I in a rut if I just keep buying new versions of the same jeans instead of trying something new? At the same time, I like them with my polka dot and striped shirts (both recent Poshmark purchases).

I'm not a cardigan person but I agree that the fit is not quite right--maybe too long? Love the Kut jeans on you! I'm all for wearing what works and these look fab on you!

I like the cardi, but as I skew preppie, that’s part of what I like. But if it’s not you, it’s not you. I love a good basic girlfriend jean, so those would be keepers for me.

I like the fit and shape of the cardigan on you! I don't prefer the colours though. The other option - see Find - looks like a better match with your complexion.

Yeah, I do think part of what I don't like about the cardigan is how preppy it feels to me. I don't mind a little preppy, but it might be a bit too much for me at the moment.

Angie, It's fascinating that you suggested the earth-toned cardigan. I had a color analysis done many years ago and since then I've been pretty rigid about sticking to colors similar to those in my pallet below. But I'm going into this current style refinement period a lot more open minded, so I'm very curious to try the color you suggested for me.

I'm about to make a separate post showing two colors of the Lole Piper raincoat and I think the olive one might possibly be a more flattering color on me. But also, I love bright and vivid colors-- they make my heart sing, so I'm not about to stop dressing in them.

The cardigan is longer on you than the model. Her sleeves end a few inches above her wrist joint, it appears. Perhaps that is why you aren’t totally satisfied. It could look a bit more modern if it was shorter, almost cropped, maybe?

I like the jeans. I think you can do better on the cardigan, but it is a great idea to find one that goes with the tops you have in mind.

Love the earrings - I have similar in white. They are so lightweight and different! I like the jeans and don't see them as a rut but a perfect support for your fun tops. I am not a big cardigan person but if you are unhappy with it definitely return.

Jenny, those jeans are fab on you. I say any given thing is only a rut if you are tired of it.

I like the outfit in 2, but I wouldn't keep the cardigan if it's not what you were after. There will be others! I wonder if it's the high-contrast stripes that maybe overwhelm your coloring. The earthy one that Angie points out is lower-contrast (between the stripe and background colors).

I ordered this cardigan in the earth toned, it looks like a nice weight piece and it's cotton, yay! I like this fit on you, and I am curious to see what the earth toned looks like. The idea to pair it with a fun bright color top underneath is brilliant.

I don't mind repeating items, especially if it's something you know you will wear and love. But there is also something to be said for trying new styles, because preferences change. I used to be against wider leg jean and now I adore them. If I didn't keep trying new styles, I'd never grow with my style. But I will also have those core staple styles that I enjoy too, it's all about balance. Good luck with your jeans search.
