NAS: Budget Busted

I went crazy (for me) at Nordstrom today and busted my budget. I'll start off here with what came home with me and then I will continue with what I have ordered and what I'm thinking about ordering.

Photos 1-2: Zella capris (shown with a tee) and Joseph Seibel sneakers. Never worn any bottoms remotely like this. They are comfy but this is very new for me.

Photos 3-4: Drape Collar Jacket and Wit & Wisdom Skinnies (not so skinny on me). I have been wanting a non-black moto-ish jacket and I'm wondering if this is it? I think I could wear the jeans to work.

Photos 5-6: My favorite outfit of the bunch. Halogen pencil skirt and Pleione Tunic. Is the top too big? I never wear pencil skirts because I never know when I will be hopping on a bikeshare bike and they are hard to bike in. But I think I can bike in this skirt because you can unzip the bottom. Happy happy happy!

Photos 7-8: Culottes-- Help! I don't know if I have any good tops to wear with this. I'm not sure I want to keep it if it means I have to buy new tops...

Here are items I tried but decided to not to buy:
Sweater: wasn't in stock in the wine color but tried it in black. Not too exciting.

Calson Shaw Collar blazer: I wanted to like this because I really want a knit blazer. But there's just something funny about this one when I put it on. Can't explain it.

Vince Camuto Trumpet Skirt: Lovely skirt but the problem is it looks like every other skirt I own.

NYDJ Samantha: I liked these but didn't love them.

Vegan tote: This just looked cheap. I guess it should not be surprising given the price.

What fab pieces you picked. You legs look a mile long and fab in the pants and pencil skirt.
I am just jumping on the colutte train so don't have much adive but both outfits look good to me how you styled them.

I have the Pleione in the same color. We are now twins. I find banded tops work best with my culottes, Or even a short boxy top.

Those zella capris look great on you! The sneakers go nicely too!
I also love the eileen fisher top and grey skinnies on you. I know you didn't get that. I prefer that EF shirt to the blue blouse, although the blue blouse is nice too, and isn't too big.

The culottes look good with what you have paired them with here. I love the Zella capri's on you. I can't tell if the Pleione top is too big bu the skirt is amazing. The moto seems to fit you but if you're unsure keep looking.

I like outfits 1/2 and 5/6 the best. I agree the skirt is a good look for you.

The funny thing is I've had the Zella capris in and out of my cart about 3 times. They were out but I love them so much on you (and I think we have similar body types) that I am reconsidering. About a year ago I tried on a similar Nike pair that I swear made me feel like I was wearing a diaper, but all of the reviews were great. So, does the elastic waist cause any excess gather/drooping of fabric from behind? I can see a lot of people are liking this fit.

raven1, I don't think I have any drooping in the behind that I can detect with the Zella capris. They have a wide waistband. To fit my hips with lots of ease, the size I got is slightly loose at the waist but there is a drawstring, so I have tightened it slightly.

After a nights sleep, I'm not sure I see myself keeping the culottes.
And I'm still thinking about the Eileen Fisher top and skinny jeans I
left behind... Since I have a limited budget I'm thinking about returning the sneakers and the culottes. My orthotics don't fit into the sneakers very well so they might not be as comfortable to wear as I would like. I might go back for the EF top. I actually don't own any jeans that fit me like a skinny (due to my narrow calves, the pair of skinny jeans I own fit me like a straight leg). I'm wondering if I could find a slightly less expensive pair of skinnies that actually fit me like a skinny.

I love the first three outfits. I'm surprised no commented on numbers 3/4, I love them on you. You look fabulous in numbers 5/6. The blouse does not seem too big at all (to my eye). I really like you in numbers 1/2 as well.

I hate to be negative. I do not like the culottes at all. They seem to be too wide for you and cut across your body at the wrong proportion. Perhaps my eye is still adjusting, but they do not appear to be flattering in the least. If you decide to return them, I second that option.

sterling: I truly appreciate your honesty. I don't find an honest opinion to be negative, I find it to be helpful! I'm new to the silhouette, so I was having a hard time telling whether the culottes are flattering on me.

I returned the culottes and the sneakers today. I thought about buying the Eileen Fisher tee but I couldn't quite wrap my head around spending $90 on a tee even though I love the asymmetrical hem detail. I'm tempted to take my sewing machine to a tee shirt and see if I can make my own version.

I'm glad you're returning the culottes - they look much blockier than you are, and not fluid enough to show that it's the material and not you.

Nice picks. I'm with you, if an item requires shopping for everything else to make it work, I would probably return it unless I was specifically seeking to increase the size of my wardrobe.
