I got home today from a little getaway and these two pieces were waiting for me. I changed out of my hiking gear to try them on, but again be warned that I’ve paid no attention to hair or makeup, LOL.

The plaid Bernardo coat with the removable moto insert exceeded my expectations! Pretty nice quality for the price point, and I quite like the fit. It’s warmer than I expected, so I need to make sure I’ll be ok with that. Roomier than I expected too. This is a M and has plenty of room in the hip, which is often where I run into trouble. I took pics buttoned fully, buttoned only at the top, and open, and pics with the moto insert and without.

The teal Pendleton is also warmer than I expected and I need to consider that. This can sub for a long puffer in my world. I love the color and length. It’s roomy all over but not crazily so. I could layer under it easily if I needed to. Don’t mistake my facial expressions for unenthusiasm — I was just getting really warm by then and wanted to get out of that winter gear since it was warm in the house! LOL

Thoughts?

Bonus: crazy heirloom tomato from our garden.

I love that plaid coat to death--it's perfect on you! For some reason it reminds me of a happier time of life, although I've never owned a plaid coat like that.

The teal Pendleton is fine and looks practical. Not loving it though.

I like the plaid coat too. I like it better without the bib. The other coat seems nice. I have a couple things from Pendleton and the quality is great.

Re the tomato: that’s called cat facing. I would get it on bigger tomatoes, like Brandywines. It’s not attractive, but the tomato is still edible, of course. I would just cut that part off. We have lots of green tomatoes, so far.

Love the plaid coat with moto insert especially - fab on you ( works without it as well )! Raincoat looks practical and fits great - nice finds!

Love the plaid coat. Cool. The teal not so much except that it is your color. I have a heavy black trench that feels warm. It only gets worn to winter funerals, which is not very often.

The plaid coat looks better on you than the stock photo; hope you keep it. I wish the teal coat was closer in color to the stock photo but it still looks better on you than on the model.

Out of these my favourite is the teal coat. I like the simplicity of design and the colour is gorgeous on you. I prefer the plaid coat without the faux moto.

I am torn between the two. I like the simple styling of the teal coat slightly better than the plaid…but as lovely as that teal looks, I prefer a slightly less dusty looking teal against your skin. The plaid Bernardo makes you look more radiant….definitely better without the bib.

I think they serve 2 separate purposes and like both. The Pendleton is a great color for you and if you need the utility of it, it makes sense. I'm now considering it although I need another coat like a hole in the head.

I noticing that the color balance in the photos with the teal coat is a little off. Not sure why, but it does make the color look a little more muted.

I see these two coats as having such different uses, I’m not considering them as an either/or, but each individually.

I am realizing more and more that I really like this length. It has some drama without being overwhelming as a truly long coat can be, and it’s practical.

I was considering what use these might have. I have a coat from Kenzie from years ago that’s a black and grey houndstooth. It has served me well and I’m not going to be hasty in letting it go, but I do think the Bernardo would make a good update to it. The Bernardo would probably also nudge me to let go of the long Mural plaid jacket from a couple of years ago that has always been just a titch snug in the hip (plus I wore it during an unfortunate incident and I can never seem to disassociate that coat from the incident in my mind!).

The teal Pendleton is a bit more gearish, but that may not be a bad thing. It would serve a different need, which is currently served in my wardrobe with either my very long black puffer or my white Helly Hansen shell layered over an insulating layer, which skews very gearish so I only wear it for winter activity and very foul weather. The closest thing I have to this coat is my old Athleta raincoat which is also too snug to layer comfortably underneath. I do wish that the quilted lining was removable for more versatility so it would be usable in moderate temps.

I personally like both coats. The plaid is unique and different, and the colors and fit seem perfect for you. The teal seems to fit well and I love that it’s waterproof, which i find to be an essential. And i like the color on you on lot
I’d keep both if that possible

Oh, the Pendleton looks much better on you than it does on me! I was also surprised by the heavy weight, and even if it had fit me better I’d have sent it back because of that. The thing is, I think it’s too warm to wear in most rain, and if it’s straight up SNOWING I don’t think you’d need something so aggressively waterproof, you know? I’d prefer a merely water resistant but more breathable/less stiff fabric for snow personally , for comfort and aesthetic reasons. Which kind of leaves a pretty narrow range of temps/weather to wear it. Basically like around freezing/slush/frozen rain. But I was also specifically looking for a raincoat I could wear in fall/spring, not winter, so you may have different needs. It does look great on you.

I really like the plaid as well!

There is a teal Bernardo sleek puffer in Poseidon at the Rack for under $ 75. It would be on it’s way to me, but I found my teal puffer a couple of years ago.

Not a fan of the teal coat - doesn’t seem to have that edge or sophistication you usually have in your style .

Both are great but totally different. The plaid is such a good color on you. I like the edge that the moto--such a unique piece! I think the teal coat is great for more casual excursions--seems like it would fit in with your active lifestyle!

I really like the teal coat on you, too. It can be hard to find flattering utility-type parkas - at least it is for me. I thought Diana made some good points about what kinds of weather you can wear it in. Bummer the lining doesn’t zip out for more versatility.

I think they both look good. The Bernardo is such an interesting design, and I like it especially with the moto insert on you. It's very nice that you can also wear it with a classic look, without the moto. I was thinking the teal coat leans a little more toward gear, as you mentioned. I wonder if you might come across one that has a removable lining, which could be more useful. I know the color is a big part of the attraction, though, and that could be hard to find. You can hang on to it while you keep an eye out, anyway, with Nordstrom's generous return policy.

Well, I like them. I think they look great on you - the plaid without the bib might need a scarf or something (it seems low V in front without it...) and the teal coat I think would be a great sub for a thigh length puffer. I am tiring (quickly) of the puffer style for myself, so keep in mind I might be very biased.
