I checked my wardrobe purchases since the beginning of the year, and realized I've only updated some golf clothing and other gear since January. I have some budget to play with given I haven't spent much all year. It's time to feel "fab" again, even if it's not the same as other years.
Taking inventory: closet and lifestyle
I've been working at home since early March, and it's decidedly more casual than the office. I don't wear shoes anymore! My outings are daily dog walks, a weekly grocery store trip, and the golf course. I went through my closets, reviewed and edited and decided I wanted to look for:
Fall/Winter Coats
I live in the rainy Pacific NW, and I run hot, so I don't need heavy outerwear. Last year I was looking for a trench coat and didn't find one, so I am trying again. I'm ordered the red Pendleton trench coat, another Pendleton plaid option, and a white lightweight less-than-puffer from The North Face. I'm all set on wool and have been very happy with the Pendleton purchases I've made in the past.
Handbags
A few of my bags wore out this year, so I'm looking for one that fits two phones, a wallet, and my keys. Bonus points if it fits my Bluetooth headset too. The Kate Spade and Tumi crossbody made it into my order.
Sneakers
It's all I'm wearing. I'm all set for ones that look like the Ecco (which oddly aren't on sale this year!). I'm trying a couple of Nike styles. My running shoes are wearing out, I'm duplicating with another pair of Nike Air Zoom Pegasus.
Activewear
Necessary for the daily dog walks and lounging. Zella is one of my favorites.
Work from Home Casual Wear
Items that are comfortable, but appear polished and work well on video meetings (no wild patterns!). 1. State v-neck, and a pair of the Nic + Zoe Wonderstretch. I have a few more pairs of these in my closet and enjoy them. I always have room for another pair of jeans, and like the Wit and Wisdom fit. The Eileen Fisher dress looks terrible in the Nordstrom photos, but I saw it on another blogger and decided to give it a try.
Home Items
Because I'm here all the time, for the first time I've added some home decor items to my list. My kitchen is all set. Potential shower curtain for the guest bathroom, Pendleton quilt and pillow.
The Tactical Operation
I appreciated the long, nearly full preview and wishlist system on the Nordstrom website. I collected a bunch of items, and spent time removing, editing, and looking at different colors. The website seems to be cooperating this year, and no items have been cancelled yet. I even ordered something that said "out of stock" and it shipped... that was mysterious but a pleasant surprise.
The items are supposed to start arriving tomorrow, which seems reasonably quick compared to prior years. I'm sure there will be returns on about half of the items. I'll be sure to return to the store so that someone else can pick them up during the sale.
I'll update this thread with the keepers and the rejects!
