The other two boots I ordered arrivd today . . . And I am so very very sad the Aquatalias don't fit. The AGLs don't fit either. Both can't be zipped up past my calf.

the AGLs, while they are a nice boot with some interesting detailing, they didn't spark love from me.

However, I am so sad, so so sad, I can't zip the Aquatalias. I fell in love with them the moment I saw them and touched the leather. Perfect boot, perfect shape, so comfortable on my foot, but I can't zip them. And I don't have big calves by any stretch.

Oh....so sorry, Thistle. As I said on Diana's thread yesterday, I'm convinced that tall boots are right up there with bras and jeans in the "difficult to fit" department. I have problems with them, too.

Oh what a bummer, Thistle! Have you tried measuring your calves? I know the fit information is sometimes off on the website but you can check the calf circumference listed for the boots and filter by calf size, I think. I have the opposite problem, narrow calves and most boots do not fit me. Aquatalia is one of the few brands that does fit, so maybe that brand just runs really narrow.

Thistle, that happened to me last winter with a pair of Fryes that I thought about forever before buying. My calf is 15" and the site said 15"!!! To make it even worse, I have another model of Frye that is also listed as 15" and it fits me with A LOT of room to spare!!! I am scarred.

I love Nordy and zappos and amazon too because returning is so easy. I'm trying to school myself to think of it as part of the process.

Sorry, Thistle. I agree with Suz- boots are tough. They have to fit in too many places, plus be comfortable to walk in, making for mega challenges.

You'll find your pair and in the meantime, know that many of us have to devote too much time to boot shopping and share your frustration.

Ah Thistle, I feel your pain! I don't think you were around YLF last year and have not seen my post where I ordered 10 pairs of tall boots, drove 2 hours one way to pick them up over the border and NONE fit! Tall boots shopping is a nightmare for sure! <hugging you and passing the tissues>

Oh, first let me give you a virtual online hug, Thistle. It's so frustrating. I have largish calves and so have experienced similar things. And you know what? I heard that Aquatalia is particularly small in sizing. I think there is someone on here, I forget who, who's got the opposite problem--calves that are too narrow to work with most brands--and she has this pair of Aquatalia boots that are killer on her. So have a cathartic cry and then let us all help you find a better pair of boots for you.

Interestingly, the description for the Aquatalias says 14.5" calf circumference for size 8.5. The implication would almost be that if your shoe size was smaller, the calf could run a little tighter too. Is that the case with you? Are you smaller than an 8.5? That's so frustrating, anyway. It's supposed to adjust to wider calves!

You know I feel your pain! I am getting very skeptical of that "stretches to fit" claim.

I have the best luck with lace up boots since they can be adjusted for big calves AND skinny ankles.

I so sympathize with you, Thistle! My 17" calves are nearly impossible to fit. My only salvation is lace-up boots, like Frye Melissas. I also once stumbled upon tall Rieker zip-up boots in a local store, and they fit me thanks to a large elastic inset. I am in Madison, by the way, and while we don't have Nordstrom's, we do have some small local boutiques where treasures occasionally pop up. Don't despair! Also, Zappos is great too for free shipping both ways and great customer service.

Nordies said they ran small and to size up a full size. They were spot on for that! S I ordered a size 10. My calls measure 15 inches, so I thought I would get to the 15 in a size 10 vs 8.5.

Off to order the Blondos.

Good luck with the Blondos. Please don't be discouraged. Boots, especially tall ones are SO incredibly hard to fit properly. I've been wearing mine too baggy for years and didn't even realize how bad they looked. We'll get you sorted; Angie and the boot elves to the rescue!

Thistle, I second the Blondos! I bought their boots last year and they are excellent for out harsh winters - waterproof, slip-resistant and warm enough to wear well below the freezing.
I have ordered similar style last year and calves were a bit snug - mine are around 16" with size 12. However later in the year I bought different Blondo boots which fitted perfectly in the calves. My point is: don't despair if these do not fit, you should be able to find good boots later in the season!

Thistle I don't know how much more room you need but I have heard that boots can be stretched quite a bit safely if done by a shoemaker.

I also have seen brands like J Crew that offer two calf sizes.

I feel your frustration as many boots are too tall and too wide or me. That is almost impossible to fix. I swear I tried on 50 or more pairs and had all but given up when I found my pair. You will too I am sure.

I have the blondo's, and they're great. I wore them all over Europe and they were super comfy. My calves are 14.5 or 15 and they fit fine. They stretch, so fingers crossed.

I'm sorry to hear that. I am sure you will find something. I understand though. I have fit issues with most things other than t shirts.

That's too bad. I have trouble fitting boots on the calf, too.
I had no idea Blondo was related to Aquatalia. You learn all kinds of things here, huh?

I feel you, Thistle! I just measured m calf at 16". I've always purchased cheaper boots, and am finding that an increase in price leased to a decrease in room on average. Shoes seem a little narrower, too.

I might check out those Blondos myself, and I'll let you know if they work.

Oh, I'm so sorry. I've heard that brand runs very narrow in the calf... but the Blondos are supposed to be fab according to lots of members.

I feel your pain Thistle I have to wear orthotic shoes now and it took a lot of searching to find anything that's even just a little bit attractive, and I looooooove shoes!!!!
Go with the blondos, they are a great looking boot
