Narrowing the specs options - YouLookFab Forum

Hi all thank you for the advice on my previous specs post a few days ago. I have reached a bit of a philosophical point with the ones I am liking now. Should they blend in or stand out?
Have now been to 5 different stores including the one recommended by a fellow Auckland Fabber Rose, which is a little further away and is also the most expensive, I have a quote. I haven’t been to the one Lozz-Oz suggested yet as it is also further away but in a different suburb, sigh.
I must say the dispensing optician in the one Rose recommended seemed to know her stuff by far the best of any of the stores. They had a whole petite section and she is the only person other than Angie who talked about the “uplift” of the cheekbones, which she explained as the bottom of the frames sort of following the lines of your cheekbones upwards.
My question is this. I possibly feel most myself in a fairly muted pair with a slight pattern. She felt they washed me out, but my DH likes them the best and said he saw me rather than the specs, and he regards them as more of a medical aid than a style statement.
The ones she helped me pick highlight my blue eyes well, they are a sort of slate blue. They also follow my eyebrow shape and have the “lift” for the cheekbones. But they are quite statementy.
There is a 3rd choice from another store that had some different brands including Silhouette that Cardiffgirl suggested, it also makes a statement but really highlights my eyes. Maybe the eyes are better in the slate blue though.
I think I don’t want to order frames on-line even though I have researched them, as my progressive lenses are quite complex with high prescription.
So, will I feel happier in a more muted pair, and make my clothes and shoes the statements instead? Or are the frames jewellery for my face? I wear earrings every day.

#2 looks fantastic and is my favorite. #1 is a close second. I think the shape of #2 is the most flattering. If you prefer more muted colors, does #2 come in other colors?

I like the second pair on you best and as it’s you I have asked the 16year old DD for the youth vote and she gives for the second pair the thumbs up too!Her exact words were “They are funky”.So the choice is yours Jenni!

#2, definitely. The best match with your colouring (not only your hair, but also skin, hair and lips), your face lines, and your style.

I strongly prefer #2 on you, it's very flattering and looks much more current than #1. The #3 frames look a bit large and overpower you. I think your husband will quickly adjust to seeing you with a new pair of frames.

#2, absolutely! The shape is wonderful for you, and it’s a nice modern look. FWIW, I went for glasses that made a statement with my last pair, and I love them.

#2 is BY FAR the winner here. Gorgeous shape and modern look. Titanium will be lightweight, too, which may be relevant if your prescription is complex.

I like 1 then 2, but almost equally.
I tend to not like a lot of color contrast though, so I may be biased...
But both look great! 3 looks a bit large.

Another vote for #2! #3 looks a bit too large, and I find #1 aging. Maybe the narrowness of #2’s frame keeps it from being overwhelming?

Vote for #2 - shape is pretty perfect. I like #1 too but it doesn't feel as modern.

Definitely #3. At a party I would think I should talk to you. Definitely not #1. They’re kind of dull. And I don’t care for the mixed materials of #2.

One more thought- try #2 with some of your earrings. I actually think the pattern in #1 might compete more with earrings than the solid of #2.

LOVE #2! The shape and color are great for you. I’m strongly in the frames-as-jewelry camp, and these will be a great compliment for your eyes!

I still see you in these frames, they do not take over your face. #2 is a nice balance between the frame being decorative and attractive and still seeing you first and not the specs.

FWIW, in no time you and your DH won’t ‘see’ the glasses so much, yet the impression they will make will be one of fresh stylishness and modernity. They do all kinds of nice things for your eyes and your skin and hair.

I suspect your DH chose #1 because they are similar to the ones you now have, and (like my DH) doesn’t like change?

Oh! I think I tried on a pair like your #3!

#2 are by far the prettiest and most flattering and are cool. #1 are what I call ‘undisturbing.’ I find #3 too tall...

I agree with both Rachylou and Runcarla, that #1 is “undisturbing” as Rachy puts it. And that maybe DH prefers that, maybe he has been more used to seeing me in frames like that over the decades ( we got together in 1985). I appreciate all the votes for #2 which I do think are more interesting, I suppose I am a bit worried that I might get tired of them? And the quote is for around $1300 which is more than I have ever spent. 4 years ago it was just over $900. It’s more than the beautiful hutch dressers/console tables we are thinking about for our front entrance hall!
I need to be forced to spend money on myself. This doesn’t seem a problem for many people, but it does for me.

Another vote for #2, they really work well with your face shape and coloring. And also the observation that my favorite glasses over the years have been the ones I worried were a bit too bold. And they were also the most expensive....

Jenni, I agree that it is A LOT OF MONEY. I hope it will be possible for you to find glasses in the same style as #2, but less expensive.

Jenni, I can totally sympathise as glasses are always expensive for me simply because I have a tricky prescription. I am lucky that contact lenses work well for me. This is definitely something only you can decide whether it is worth the extra money. Even $900 is a lot to spend, and the reason why I tend to go a number of years between updating my specs, generally when the prescription changes and so a massive outlay (one way or the other) is on the cards.

For big purchases like this, I take my time before deciding upon purchasing. You have this frame as the benchmark. However, on the other hand, time is money too, so if #2 is speaking to you strongly and it is only a matter of cost, then please take the plunge. In terms of $ per wear, this will at least be one of you most worn items.

2 is the best, in my opinion. I really like them for your face and coloring. If they are expensive, well, you will wear them all the time! So much more than any other item.
