Nail style winter 2023?

I’m going to get a manicure (something I do maybe once or twice a year) before a little trip to NYC with my husband — it’s always a good idea to get one when I won’t be cooking and cleaning!

I’m looking at doing something not overtly holiday-ish (no little trees or overt bling), but subtle and sophisticated. I saw these two examples in pics 1-2, which appeal to me. Pics 3-5 are some of my nail style from previous holiday seasons.

Has anyone seen any great nail color style lately? I welcome more inspiration!

I keep my nails clear, short, and natural! I use Kur and love that product. So no help with anything more than that, I'm afraid.

Getting my nails done (regular polish) is a new thing for me since the pandemic. It brings me much joy to have colour at my fingertips. I go for all kinds of colour. One of my favourite ‘styles’ is to pick two colours and have the ring and middle fingers one colour and the other two fingers and thumb the other colour. I do the reverse colour scheme on the other hand. A favourite colour combo was navy and dark chocolate brown.

I’ll probably go classic red (I wear a lot of red) for my mani next week, but if the nail tech has anything with a chrome finish, I might go that route.

#5 is my favourite mani of the ones you show, but a beautiful dark blue/midnight, with silver would be festive and work with your palette.

I like #1 in a red that you like. It reads festive to me, but not too much for every day. I do not do mani's.
I appreciate that you mention that you save them for occasions that your hands will be at on vacation.
I have always wondered if one could scrub the bathtub or dig in the garden with such beautiful nails.

I love french manicures so #2 looks like such a chic update! #1 makes me think of dessert!

I used to do my nails all the time but it's fallen off in the past two years. I blame my dog! Only because I'm walking him instead of walking on my treadmill and stopping to do coats in between. When I was better at it I couldn't be satisfied without some glitter. so I'd go for the first picture. Well, glitter is hardly subtle and sophisticated so maybe you could take it as inspiration but with fewer dots.

Your rings look cool but those two finger rings would be my nightmare! I don't think I could tolerate my fingers not being free.

I only do my fingernails when I'm on holiday. It also serves as a visual and physical reminder that I AM on holiday. (Although I might promptly destroy them if I'm camping or boating.)

I like the look of the deep colours you show (navy and deep red or is that plum?)

Festive nails I've enjoyed in recent years that weren't too "themed" have been:
Dark forest green.
Crimson, with one accent nail in gold (like your navy and silver)
Clear, with white snowflakes painted onto a few nails.

How about a dark glossy navy? No so festive but v cool with your vibe.

I only get my toes done. Especially in the winter, seeing my painted toes gives me endless joy

I like #5 best of these manicures. My current pedicure is a dark charcoal glitter, the deep colour gives some sophistication to the glitter.

I confess that I am not a fan of nail art, but I like # 5. Like Runcarla, I was also thinking about blue and silver - festive and harmonious with your palette. I wear always the same colors on my nails (various shades of pink). During the Christmas holidays I often buy something glittered or I dare a bright red.

These are great! I’m thinking dark and subtly sparkly like gunmetal or deep blue (again). Thanks for all the inspiration! I may try the modified French mani for a beach vacation later in the winter.

Peri, the rings are easier to wear than I expected! The larger one — well, I couldn’t play piano in it, but I don’t play anymore so it’s not a problem. I wouldn’t wear it on a day when I’m photographing, but I work on the computer just fine in it!

The ring in pic 3 only surrounds one finger and then curves over the top of my pinkie. Anyone who’s ever seen Christine D’Ercole (Peloton instructor) has seen the larger versions of this ring — she wears them stacked and very bold! It’s very easy to wear and looks vaguely weapon-like, which I kind of enjoy.

Yes to dark and glittery! Sounds like fun. I have only had a mani once, I tend to pick at polish on my fingers so it isn't worth it. I do like getting the occasional pedi but not in the winter when my toes are usually covered up. Love your artsy rings.

Yes, I like to give my toes a break during the winter! I will resume pedis with polish in the spring, giving my nails a chance to rest from all the polish while the weather is cold and my toes covered.

I’m getting my Christmas nails and toes done this week. I always end up going for French polish on my nails and red for my toes but reading all the replies I am challenging myself to get something different.

I love nail art even if I never do a mani (I do like the pedi part), and always compliment someone who has a perfect ten. The dark glitter is beautiful, and you could add a tiny star or moon to up the solstice angle if you are so inclined.

I like 1 or 2 but never blue or green. They look like they are on dead people. I prefer nude nails on both fingers and toes and paint them myself when I feel the urge.

I think a deep burgundy would be fab for you Janet, like you showed in pic 1 ... Gunmetal would also be fab, sort of festive glam! I am so draw to deep chocolate for this year for some reason (although my nails chip so badly I stick to sheer pink irl).

I saw a subtle shimmery light gold on somebody on TV and it looked so pretty and festive, so I think that's what I will do.

I love having my nails done though current lifestyle doesn’t allow for it unless I get a shellac manicure. Anyway… what about a reverse or inverse French manicure? They’re so chic! I like the one with the gold around the nail bed for something less dramatic.

I also think you can’t go wrong with doing one in glitter and the rest in a complimentary festive color!

Well, if I had access to anything, I'd do some kind of fake, long nail with a great design, like candy canes or holly. But I don't wear those, due to heavy use of my hands at work and home.

If a design is available at your salon, I'd do any design, because they are so neat.

And then if it were me at home with a bottle of polish, I'd just do something sparkly--silver, gold, metallic purple, or glitter white. That kind of thing.
