I've generally played it pretty safe with nail polish. I just paint my toenails, cause polish on my hands will chip in 1 day, but usually some form of low contrast on me copper (the last shade in Finds).

For Halloween though, I did sparkly black, and realized it was a lot quieter on me than I would have thought. So now I have burgundy (pardon the dusty sandals), which I always thought would be vampy or goth, though burgundy is one of my main neutrals. Surprise surprise, it works!

The color I'm wearing was from the salon, but considering these others for my winter color.

Anyone else using a new to you nail color that you're enjoying?

Gorgeous colors, and your pedicure looks great!

I rarely wear nail color, especially one different from blush which is what my summer pedicure usually is. The last "notable" color I wore is dark purple below, but that was ages ago:

I’m totally into nail colour , and the richer and more interesting at this time of year ….the better ! I have a special occasion to dress for this coming weekend , and I’m already pondering my mani/ pedi options . Love those coppery ones you’ve shown .

Love this burgundy! I think it's a very subtle colour as a pedicure; it's one of the few that Kate will wear on the royal toes!

The burgundy looks great... not vampy or goth at all (unless you want it to be! I'm often a goth-lite myself). I don't paint my nails often, but I love a good copper, or deep rich shades like the ones you've been picking. I haven't worn black in ages but now you've got me thinking about it again...

This is a great colour. Burgundy has always been a ‘normal’ colour to me for polish yet I too have always feared its darkness. But not, go figure, dark green…

The unexpected direction I'm going in lately has been the nude-pink field! I was always all about the unexpected colors...black, grey, brown, green. It feels odd to be drawn toward the more natural shades, but it keeps happening. I haven't given up my glitter accents though. I'm still letting my inner 5 year old have her way with nail polish.

I rarely wear nail polish on my hands, for the same reason you don’t! Haven’t yet painted my toenails this spring, as it’s been particularly wet and cool with only infrequent wears of sandals. When it warms up, I’ll probably go with the reds and pinks I already have and use them up before seeking out new colours.

Yes! I recently bought an aubergine nail polish and I like it. Completely out of my comfort zone, usually I wear shades of pink, sheer, or sheer with a little glitter. Your feet look nice in burgundy!

That’s a great color! I love nail color but in the winter I give my toes a break since no one is seeing them. And I’m hard on my hands so I rarely do color on my fingernails. However I love bolder dark colors so I find these really appealing. I did a dark midnight blue in the past and loved it, also deep plum, burgundy, and dark teal. I will probably do my nails this week since I don’t have to cook and clean for Thanksgiving this year (stepson and DIL are hosting — yay!). Your picks are inspiring me!

Suz, such sweet memories, and how sad that the doc didn’t have your mom’s knowledge of what can be seen in fingernails. Besides anemia, many places require patients to remove it before surgery because of the other things fingernail color can warn of.

Suntiger, what kinds of polish do you use? I had a very brief period where I liked it, but then I learned about environmental impacts & potential health risks. By now I assume the “better” brands are better, but I haven’t looked into them.

Thanks all! I'm definitely not going for goth, which is a good thing cause I don't think I'd ever pass These are vegan, cruelty free, and 7 free SF. I actually found them on Etsy originally, like nearly all the other makeup I'm using.

I considered skipping the polish for winter, but there are days warm enough for sandals often as late as December. Plus they're building a new pool so I'll be swimming again

I don't want to derail the conversation about actual nail colour, but let me just say, in the doc's defence, there really wasn't anything they could have learned from removing that polish, alas—my mother had a massive head injury. And Lisa, as far as relationships go, mine with my mother was for years quite complicated. But there were good and happy moments even in the tough years. As she aged, she remained quite rough on me, but I was better able to bear it and contain it, and as I became caregiver, she mellowed (a bit!)

Suz, you’re lucky she mellowed & let you become a caregiver. My own mom has made it clear there is zero chance of that. It’s part of why I had no guilt moving across an ocean from them.

I have become high maintenance in my 60’s. I used to think mani’s were only for those who had long nails, and I kept mine short. I think I had my first mani in my late 40’s, and afterwards maybe once a year prior to a beach vacation. I started regular seasonal pedis in my 50’s - doing them myself - and only added manicures this past year!

My current nail colour (a merlot with brown undertones) pictured below. Keeping a mani intact may be my super power. Though they do grow out, they almost always last 3 weeks!

I love your burgundy toes!-) And I'd been admiring those gorgeous nail polish colours ever since I saw them pop up in Finds:-)

I only paint my toenails in the Summer months, and then usually go for a "softer" colour, but these vibrant ones are so amazing!

In the abstract I miss my mani-pedi routine and having real haircuts. But until we are really through all of this, I will stick with self-help. I can cut my own hair but have never been able to do a good polish application. So it’s bare toes for me for the foreseeable.

I'm not my mum's physical caregiver, but have become her life manager for the time being. This is the part of aging that no one ever talks about- but definitely the biggest change. DH and I are suddenly The Adults :/

These nail colors are lovely, so rich and perfect for winter. The metallic burgundy is my favorite.
I wear often “regular” red nail polish in all seasons. This is my home made mani from the weekend.

The burgundy on toes is good too. Don’t think I am into that for myself, prefer a brighter red on toes. I have taken off my greenish-gold polish the other day and need to decide what to do next. Still slightly obsessed with looking at orange tops and sandals ATM. But so many different shades of orange! I would like them all to be the same if I bought something!

Interesting to see so many different views on nail colour. Suz, your description of your mothers hands raw from hot water and detergent describes a lifetime of my memories of my mother's hands. I don't know that she ever polished her nails.

I am on team naked nails these days, too. I spent several years obsessed with a monthly gel manicure, though. Usually just a simple French manicure. Sometimes a rusty red or pale pink, but a crisp French always felt best for my style.

I've never been into wilder nail colours, but I enjoy seeing how much others enjoy them!
