Greetings, my friends. It's still very warm here in Phoenix, but I figured I'd better get this post out before the rest of you in my hemisphere are in snow boots (Una, I know, too late!).

I've been weeding out my closet and very few of my Summer-only clothes will be carried over for next year. I wore out several pieces and re-consigned some of the dresses that weren't quite right for some reason or another. I still have the Ann Taylor spotted dress that has 3/4 sleeves. It will carry over well into Fall. I'm keeping the denim skirt for now. The seaming is starting to look dated to me, but it's still hot enough that some days I don't want to wear jeans. So I guess you could call those two transitional pieces. Once the temps get cooler, I'll switch them for the sweaters.

You might know that I "cheat" during Summer by using my Fall/Winter clothes anytime I'm going to be in arctic A/C for more than an hour. I keep these clothes relatively seasonless so that they can do double duty for me. I wear mostly neutrals because they feel right to me no matter the time of the year.. But then I live in a very unusual climate and I've had to figure out what works for me.

I'm bringing back most of the premium denim that I bought last year. I have dark, medium and white skinny jeans (AG and CoH). In a controversial move, I decided to sell my black Joe's with the pleather knees, along with several pairs of very beautiful shoes which either hurt my feet or weren't practical for my lifestyle *sob*. I used up my clothing money on my Summer clothes and shoes earlier this year, so the only way to add a few things for F/W was to sell those items that weren't working for me. I replaced them with a taupe cashmere pullover last month and more recently, the taupe KORS booties *waving at Suz, Queen Taupe*, both from my favorite consignment store. In effect, I traded a bunch of not-quite-right items for two that hit the spot exactly. Here is my thread about the booties. I'd like to be this careful with my purchases going forward; I certainly have made my share of mistakes in the past!

Pictured first are two "transitional items" from Spring/Summer Wardrobe

    • black spotted knit dress-S/S
    • denim pencil skirt-S/S
    • floral sweater (cotton) new, LOFT--bought midsummer
    • snake print sweater (cotton/silk blend)
    • chambray shirt (Tencel)
    • striped sweater (cotton) new ON--bought early Spring
    • snake print blouse (silk)
    • white jeans
    • medium wash jeans
    • dark wash jeans

Once it gets cold, I'll swap out the dress and skirt for two lightweight wool sweaters (I already test-drove the cashmere--nice!):

    • taupe heather cashmere V-neck pullover
    • charcoal merino crew neck pullover

Actually, I'm calling the merino sweater an "extra" (which doesn't count toward the ten items) because it's too itchy for me to wear on it's own--I have to layer it over a blouse. So I still have room for another piece come Winter. My other extras are a black blazer, two trench coats: a cropped cream (the Celine) and a knee-length khaki, a cashmere scarf and an all-purpose clutch. I only kept comfy shoes, so that leaves me with 2 pairs of sandals, 2 pairs of ballet flats and one pair of booties--a little sparse, but definitely doable.

Full disclosure: I bought other things this past Spring that I thought I'd be wearing this Fall, but after trying them over the Summer, I realized they were just not right for me. How I wish I could get that money back! *sigh* Hopefully I learned something from my mistakes.
@Suz: I tried the navy striped BR sweater that we share (along with many forum members) a few weeks ago and it was just TOO tight. I no longer wanted to wear it. Off to the consignment store it went, along with my purchasing fails.
