My shopping fast ended up lasting the whole 3 months of our official summer in NZ. I had stopped 24 November and finally bought again on 13 March (108 days). Our summer is 1 December- 28 February. So I had enough from a little pre-summer shopping and from other years to see me through. I feel somewhat embarrassed about this.
Summer was a good season to end up doing this, because I think summer is my biggest problem season for over-shopping. I have counted up, for instance, that 62 clothing items ( not including underwear, camis, sleepwear and socks) belong to that season out of just under 200, so I'm overweight in that season, and 22 of the 50 pairs of shoes. Definitely almost half the shoes for one quarter of the time.
My problem with summer is that I'm a girl (woman) who loves flowers, brights, fringes, embroidery, boho, sparkles... And there are so many more of those things in summer that make my heart sing. It was overflowing my wardrobe space and taking over my life. I would like to cull and make room for more carefully selected pretty things, I think. I've had a big test these past 5 days on holiday resisting such items, of which there are literally hundreds in 2 Queensland beach towns! I've managed to resist as autumn is here and I don't want to undo all my good work. I have bought 2 pairs of summer shoes to replace others, will post separately. I have tracked the wears quite obsessively and had maybe 12 of those clothing items ( about 3 of which are probably Spring/ Autumn anyway and may yet get worn in the next 3 months) and 6 pairs of shoes which didn't get worn. But if I had bought the usual amount of stuff ( 2015 was a big year) then a lot more would not have got worn! And yet I don't want to get rid of most of it... I did get rid of 2 pairs of trousers which were dying, had those little threads of elastane coming through. And that enabled wearing a $90 greeny-grey cuffed pair from 2012 a lot more, now worn 13 times and down to $7 CPW which I'm happier about. Lots of the clothing and shoes under $5 CPW now. Feeling better about it all. Will be assessing my Autumn wardrobe very carefully as it is also quite well stocked. More lessons may come to me over time.
