it fell off the board and split open. I think it still works electrically but the screw bit that holds the plate to the top broke and would be unstable even if I managed to glue it.

Sooo I think I need a new iron and I assumed YLF would have more experience with steam irons and could provide some recommendations. The one I used was a Hamilton Beach hand-me-down from my stepmom and I was generally satisfied with it.
My lifestyle doesn't justify shelling out for a Rowenta; I would only use it occasionally for ironing/pressing button-ups, pants, skirts, and sewing projects. Prefer to keep it below $50?
