I was commenting about my hobby on a forum post by Jenn, in which I said my hobby is my dogs, but the sad reality is that we only have one dog now. On February 3, we had to say good-bye to our sweet boy. After 18 years his heart just gave out. We are devastated and I’ve been having the most difficult time dealing with my overwhelming grief. I can’t even talk about it without turning into a puddle of tears.

I know so many of you are animal lovers and can understand the love and connection I have with my dogs. He was my first dog as an adult. I remember the day I picked him up like it was yesterday; it was love at first sight. He was such a good boy, even as a puppy he was just so laid back and smart. He made friends everywhere. One of our neighbors always said, ‘he looks like a person.’ I talked to him as if he was a person and I swear he understood every word, so maybe that’s why.

When he was 16 years old, a little girl rescue joined our family. She is a special needs senior that was stuck in a shelter, being passed over for months, until she was transferred to a local rescue where we found her. He graciously accepted her even after being an only dog for such a long time.

It’s just so hard to believe my puppy-boy is gone, I miss him terribly.
