My poison eye changed

I used to really dislike the look of infinity scarves. I tried one and now I can't get enough! I love how they don't drag though what I'm doing as I'm doing my SAHM thing. They are so cozy and yet compact.

Anyone else have something that used to make their poison eye twitch but now is a favorite?

I hear you on the infinity's practical side. I only have one, and have kept "true" to "real" scarves, but as you say, you can't beat them for staying put. I've also done the tie-corners of scarf together to make it into a faux-infinity. Interesting concept--are we the boss of our clothes or vice-versa?

The strongest poison-eye change I've gone through was a while ago. As a kid and teenager in the 80s, I abhorred straight or flared legs. I thought I'd never be caught dead in anything other than tapered.
Then the early 90s came along, first with yoga pants and Levi's 501s, which all of a sudden felt so fresh and appealing. Then bootcuts and flares...
I suppose it's fitting that my most recent poison-eye (though not as intense and long-lasting) was skinny pants. When they first popped up I just didn't find them flattering on anyone other than extra-tall, extra-leggy, extra-thin people. I came around, perhaps because they are so everywhere, and I even wear them sometimes, but I don't really love them.

PS. Love infinity scarves of all kinds!

This goes to show that it's probably a good idea to occasionally retry our "poison eye" items, as fashion and individual tastes are in a constant state of flux. At some point, qfbrenda, something promoted you to retry infinity scarves, and it's good that you did!

Can I have a poison eye just for me? I.e., you like it on others but on your own self .. just no? Or does poison eye mean you hate it on everyone?

If the former, I have a lot in that category, that I later discovered I just didn't find the right item to work for me. Right now it's crew necks. 98% of them look horrible on me. But there is the rare crew neck that works just fine. I think because crew necks are so insanely on trend & ubiqutous right now in the stores, there's subtle differences in the fit which I'm finding makes ALL the difference.

As for infinity scarves, I adore the look on others, but generally steer clear for me, because of fit. 98% are too long wrapped loosely or too tight wrapped like they are supposed to look.

Sometimes you could find them in real pretty colors and they are soft and nice I know a few women in my family sports them.

Funny you mention infinity scarves. I tried one and simply hated the way it looked on me. However, I have discovered regular scarves, in certain lengths and widths that are suited for my petite size, are great. So now I'm wearing scarves. I never thought I'd see the day!

Same with ankle boots. I disliked them at first. Now I have several pairs and love them.

Echoing Elizabeth P. Booties with a skirt, but no more. That's all I wear now! A year ago (pre YLF) I wouldnt even have considered it. In fact, someone commented just the other day on how I was "rocking the booties" with my skirts.

Booties with a skirt are definitely poison on me. They make my calves look too big. On others, I think they look adorable!

Ha! So funny, shoppingcarty! I like booties with skirts precisely because my calves are larger --- the visual weight of the booties seems to balance my legs. Stilettos are my enemy! They look like they'd snap like twigs on me!

There are very few looks I don't like when they suit the wearer. I suppose I'm over cropped/ankle pants, but I sometimes like them as styled by others.

Capries and leggings under skirts. Horrified when I first saw the look many years ago, but now I don't even notice.
Also, running shoes with skirts. It looks so wrong to my eye, even on the models. I love the practicality of it, and have a vested interested in seeing it embraced as a trend, but....running shoes?

It's funny how this can happen! I've never had a really entrenched poison eye turn into a favourite (over-the-knee boots, acid wash jeans, the colour magenta -- still no love for those), but there have been a few silhouettes that I wasn't fond of that became absolute staples. Skinny jeans is the best example I can think of. When they came back in style a decade ago, I had 80s flashbacks (in not a good way!) and it took me a long time to try them. But eventually, of course, they became indispensable to my wardrobe.

Birkenstocks! In my younger years I hated them... Now I have 3 pairs... I cans say with confidence the my poison eye for Uggs will remain firm...

Cropped pants! They are growing on me now but they have to meet specific requirements like tapered hems and hit the sweet spot on the leg.
Can't think of anything else...
Interestingly I embraced booties (with skirts too) pretty early - and agree with Beth Ann that they are very flattering on gals with larger calves and ankles
