Inspired by Shannon and our upcoming moving/downsizing, I've purged my wardrobe today. This time, I got serious and purged about 25% of my inventory!

Here are the numbers:

5 dresses

1 shorts
2 jeans

4 dressy pants

6 skirts
12 tops & tees
5 blouses & shirts
6 sweaters & cardigans
8 jackets
6 scarves
6 pairs of shoes
1 bag
3 belts
= 65 pieces

Remaining: 155 pieces. Not a minimalist wardrobe, but I think it is getting close to be simple enough for me.
I've noticed that a lot of what I've removed stems from the Salvation Army thrift shop. I also had too many duplicates in some categories, particularly dressy pants and jackets. Notes to self: Be much more picky when thrifting. Know my lifestyle even better and shop accordingly. I lead a more casual life than I think.

My criteria for letting something go were:

  • Did I wear it during the past year?
  • Is it too short, tight or uncomfortable?
  • Is the pattern or color off (dainty floral, juvenile, costumey etc)?
  • Do I love it?

I had planned to create a boutique for myself of the pieces I wasn't sure of, but when I was done, I wanted to have all the remaining bits and pieces in my ordinary closet. Very little was removed for seasonal reasons, too, so I'm getting closer to achieving my goal of having a mostly seasonless wardrobe. I do definitely feel that I'm getting down to a size that is varied enough for me, and that I can wear all my pieces regularly. From now on, I'll definitely apply one in, one out in most categories to keep it tidy.
Thanks to Shannon for providing the necessary push, and thanks everyone for reading! All and any comments are most welcome.
