My oversized mustard shirt

I bought this shirt a couple of years ago but have hardly worn it. I'm not sure why. It was more fitting before but now it is quite oversized. When I saw the mustard blog and inspired by other people's posts, I decided to retry it with my slim fit pants from zara and a couple of shoe options. Thanks for looking. Personally I think it looks better tucked in this case but would be interested in what others think. Is it too big for me?

No not too big as it looks like the fit on your shoulders is right. OS shirts are so trendy. I definitely prefer the half tuck the most, then the front tuck then tied. It is a bit baggy and shapeless loose. Maybe with a topper it will be better loose.

Thank you star. Good idea about the topper giving it more shape. We are moving into warmer weather so I will probably wear it on its own sometimes.

Wow, does this color ever light up your face! Tied is my favorite. Half-tucked usually looks to me like things are falling apart. In this case, because the tail (in front, is that what it’s called?) is longer, it has more of a color-block feel. Might be my #2 choice.

This would be fun as a fall topper, maybe over your black dresses, but I’m trying to think of how to bring out the warm spring feeling. Maybe mix it with other yellows in a fun monochrome mix. My long maternity dress has this color, I think, with tonal matches and also magenta. I think that makes a happy summer mix.

This is a lovely color on you. I agree with Star that the shoulder fit looks right, so it is definitely designed to fit oversized. I like all the tied/semi tucked versions. Another option, do you like vests/waistcoats? A simple one worn over it open would be enough to rein in the volume and would be less warm than a jacket.

I like the colour, & #3 is my favourite fit option of the lot - it feels so quintessentially British to me. Can't quite put my finger on it, but it's just the right amount of polish (the shine on the shoes) combined with a 'no, I can't be arsed to tuck my shirt all the way back in after nipping to the loo - what of it?' sort of attitude that makes me miss home.

Or maybe it's just the opaque black bottoms paired with sensible flat shoes. Who knows

No, not too big - right on trend for slightly oversized shirts and you’ve tempered this with the slim cut pants . I like it every way you’ve styled it. The colour suits you very much too. A winner to my eyes!

I like this color on you too- prefer it tucked in. You could try it lose with a low slung belt and more boho bottoms.

I like it tucked in but generally I prefer oversized shirts worn with wider pants or loose fit jeans. Great color, though.

@stagiaire fash I do have a maxi dress which is black and white which I could wear it over...polka dots. I suppose it would go over a slip dress without looking too bulky. I might try that.
@Tanya I used to have a thing for waist coats ...you know borrow from the boys waistcoats but don't have them now. I was looking for a denim vest to wear with my skirts. I'm not sure if that would go with denim though. Maybe a black vest would be better.
@Zaeobi...that was funny but in a way it is something that always gets me about the half tucks. I like the way they look but how do you explain to those that just don't get it. "No I didn't tuck my pants in properly because I like it this way." You don't want to go around looking like you didn't bother tucking your pants in after going to the loo.

@chewy spaghetti - Yes I do have some white cotton boho pants and I have just got some birkenstock shoes. I could make it boho if I can get a good belt. Or maybe tie it with boho pants.

@Angie - thanks. I did have a mustard cardigan which I passed on for some reason. Maybe I need to get another mustard cardigan or scarf.

What a great colour! Works with your blacks the way gold jewellery does. Get this top into circulation, girlfriend! (#4 is my favourite for styling.)

Looks great to me ! I like it tucked or knotted , and I’d add some jewellery at your neck ( to add some visual weight and emphasis to stand up to the black ) and send you on your way I also agree with Irina that wide pants would look good with it too .

I completely understand. Hope it didn't come across like I was criticising the look - quite the opposite! I agree with SF about the 'colour blocking' feel - my loo comment was more about the 'devil may care' sort of attitude that balances out the 'prim & proper' feeling the rest of the outfit could convey. I miss seeing that here, where fashion is usually either very girly/ twee or very oversized/ casual - no Inbetweeners

In other words, it's up to you whether the 'loo' perception would phase you too much to wear this look around others. If you have a 'what of it?' feeling, then #3 shouldn't phase you. But if you're worried, then maybe the knotted or front tuck feel of #2 & #4 would be better suited?

@lisa p - good point about the necklace. I need to remember the small details which I have a habit of forgetting. When I'm working, I usually have a lanyard around my neck.

@Zaeobi - Actually I think running around with half my pants tucked in would look quite authentic at work and people probably would just think the tuck was coming out during my busy day. I can't remember where you are living but interesting that it is too extremes.

@Sally I'm in Hong Kong right now but was raised in the UK to Pakistani parents. 'People watching' the street style in all 3 places has been interestingly influential, to say the least!

What's your occupation? As a teacher, I can identify with the hectic workplace - my hair'style' on the job is everything held in place with a big claw clip. Very glam, I know

Zaeobi I love Hong Kong. I am a teacher too and have always wanted to go and teach there. i know someone who went this year and is enjoying it despite the pandemic. I"m waiting until my son leaves high school and this pandemic has settled before I travel again. I did live in the UK for a year so I know the pub culture, the cool fashion and how things must be different in Hong Kong. I also live in an area of Auckland with a lot of South Asian communities. My son's father is from India but my son has a lot of friends from Pakistan as they are all mad cricketers and share that passion. It was cool to get your perspective on things.
