My new skirt: marrying two wardrobe workhorses of the past

I got this skirt secondhand on Ebay for 5€! It was marked as "used", but it really doesn't look like it has been worn more than twice. Made out of 100% virgin wool and a high quality brand, Marc O'Polo. Knowing the brand I'm guessing this skirt was probably priced considerably over 100€ in retail. I think it's the perfect marriage of two wardrobe workhorses of the past, my full black skirt und my plaid dress. The Zara skirt is more or less done in, but I can't bear to throw it away yet. The plaid dress is now in my sister's closet because it no longer fits me.

Looking through my old pictures in search for an outfit with the dress I realised how much my style has grown up over the last year especially... It's insane!

And some news on the earrings I ordered: I got an email today that they're on their way now. I can't wait!

Thanks Gaylene! Yes, the hair and the glasses make such a difference... I once again sorted through the wardrobe today and got rid of a lot of worn out things, but I now feel that the the entirety of it is finally approaching something like order. I'm going to restrict myself to Ebay for now to add some new things in, it has worked well so far.

Great job on your wardrobe edit as well, Astrid! Do you have enough still, or did the edit uncover a lot of holes?

If you're counting I'm wearing a rather small number of pieces from day to day anyway at the moment. I'm doing a lot of laundry... All those pieces are newer, so I have these left. Plus maybe around twenty items that I'm wearing more sporadically - either because they're not really my style or because they have fit issues. I definitely don't have enough tops that are good for inbetween temperatures. I can wear my T-shirts when it's warm and have all my lovely woolens for when it's cold but there is nothing for in between. And I need a new wool coat this year, plus maybe a new pair of booties.

At the moment I have a new striped tee to replace my old one on the way, plus a (hopefully fitting) pair of shorts.

Thanks Donnat! Yes, it's really fascinating to look back on old outfit pictures. You normally have only everyday photos from birthdays or holidays, to have pictures with your outfit front and centre is definitely different.

The new skirt is so you and I love brown on you. You make the color look young and modern. I've been shopping eBay lately too, but there have been some misses. Nothing wrong with the clothing, just fit issues that have been a lesson in being more careful.

Thanks Joy! I think it's easier for some pieces/styles than for others. I have a few cuts that can work out well or not so well, depending on minimal fit issues. But there are a few things I know work most of the time, so I think the chance of a bad buy is much smaller when I stick to those.

That new skirt is fantastic on you--what a great fit and style. Love the subtle pattern, too--it will be great for pattern-mixing if the mood strikes you to do that sometimes. The way you've shown it here is great--simple and chic. You wear oxfords so well! They exude effortless style on you.
