So the coat I thought might be my big coat (main one to wear for the next 5 years etc) as arrived.

I am not sure about it.
The pockets make it stick out a lot at the front and it is quite flared.

DH took these photos on his mobile, so they look a bit different to my normal ones,

PS I own a black puffer, and a black and white check lighter weight coat so I'll not freeze if I don't get it - has to be a 10, specially at this price ($149)!

Very cute coat Anne - the angles aren't right though, your legs look short. You don't look happy in it. Try styling it with some outfits and photographing before deciding? Could the pockets be altered?

Anne I like the color of the coat and the style but I'm not sure I can really assess from this pictures (no offense to DH).

As Fruitful suggests, can you have a go at styling over an outfit and get better pictures?

Sorry Anne I think it's back to the drawing board for this one. The colour is good on you but overall it seems too long & the side view is not flattering.

The color is beautiful on you but the coat looks a bit big and I agree that the angles are not flattering. I think you need to keep looking. Perhaps a belted coat would work.

I'm flummoxed. Looks fine from the front, but the sticking out in the side view doesn't seem related to the pockets at all, being lower down? Could it be simply a question of moving the button over, or is the 'skirt' too roomy for you?

Hi Anne, it seems like hubby might be alot taller than you because it looks like the picture is being taken from high up which alters your proportions. The coat seems long either because the picture is taken from a high angle or maybe because the coat really is long and would be best with dresses and skirts.

I think the coat looks a little too big for you, both in the shoulders and length-wise. Although the color is great, it might be better to keep looking.

To respond to a few points

Camera angle - yes DH is 8" taller than me. He isn't a bad photographer, but our normal camera has broken and his mobile can't do all that a camera could

Sticking out. - what I meant about the pockets is that the stiff fabric on the pockets makes the coat seem to stick out in a point in the low front.

makes my legs look short - very likely (though they ARE very short!!)

Is it too big - it doesn't feel huge around the shoulders, but like there is too much fabric on the bottom half. Perhaps I just don't like a flared look in such bulky fabric.

DH and I both think it isn't a keeper, so I think it'll go back. I have got to stop ordering coats online! (expensive to return)

It's hard to tell Anne, with all of the wrinkles from the packing. Can you give it a good (and careful!) steaming with your iron before deciding? It might help it to lie right in the front. After that, it just might be a bit long, and that's not so tough to fix. I hear you on expensive returns by mail! Ugh.

I vote return... it seems to be scaled too long for you - I don't necessarily mean the length of the coat overall, but the stance feels too low, and I think it throws your proportions off. The shoulders also seem off somehow. Sorry if I'm a killjoy here! :T

The coat actually fits quite well from the bust down, Anne. It's the angular shape of the sleeve crown and shoulder points that give me pause and look ill-fitting. Another return vote from me.
