My new baobao - YouLookFab Forum

Since the first bag was the wrong one (though actually I think the one I got is better) I decided I needed a smaller bag too. This baobao fits the bill and I think I can use it dressed up or down since its metallic. I also noticed the difference in prices in Japan compared to UK/US. The same bag is somewhere near double the price overseas...

So if any of you are going to be visiting Japan in the future, definitely buy one here!

I think next i'm going to get a pair of silver Stella McCartney trainers a bit like Janet's but there are some similar older season ones on the outnet. Will be good to pair with jeans.

I'm really going overboard with the accessories, I think that's where its at for me. Plain clothing and make the outfit with accessories.

Does anyone else tend to dress like that?

Love it! I like your approach. The bag stands out so nicely with the simple black pieces.

I’m looking at a larger one, and I’m pretty smitten with the flat backpack style. I got to check it out in NY and it was only available in black, white, or grey, but now I see this green online too. But they’re so pricey! Japan is high on my travel wish list, but it will probably be another year or two before I get there.

Love your baobao, the perfect style and size matching your beautiful young self! You really nailed the things paired together here. Love the silver (echoing the bag) and the tans (for your complexion)+ some whites for a cheeky pop- all comming from the sandals... and the (not so simple as you'd think:-)) black outfit for a silent backgroud. The result is a subtle gorgeous artsy edgy thing I rarely see done so well. Killer!

I’m lurching in this direction also- though haven’t fine- tuned it at all. I have not been a big “ accessorizer” in the past, though I do own a variety of handbags , scarves, jewelry- in part because my past professional dress environment did not lend itself to accessorizing. So I used my actual clothing for variety- lots of pants, tops, skirts.
But in retirement, I’m seeing the practicality of smaller actual clothing capsules. I need to know that everything I currently have fits well and is in “ my styles” and is therefore immediately wearable whenever the right weather or occasion for it arises.
The key for me is to not over- accumulate accessories either, but to see which types , and accessory capsules and “ complements, ” give different and desired looks when combined in different ways.

Janet, I think that style is like almost $1000 in the US but around $600 in Japan. I really like the backpack with the fold over flap. Its around $800 in Japan but $1600 in the US. I don't know why there is such a big price difference but for that amount of money (the US price), i'd be after a more luxury brand.

I think accessories are easier to keep nicer for longer with the kids being so young still. I can put them away easily and they shouldn't get pulled at or spilled on so easily...unlike my clothing. I still can't wear anything too fancy, too scared of it being ruined.

Oh wow, yes, I would probably jump on the grey version (even though I love the green) for that price instead of the US price. But I’ll hold off! Or see if my husband surprises me for Christmas, LOL.

Ooh Janet, I hope you can get a Christmas surprise. The stock in Japan is always here and there. The one I got was out of stock for ages before they brought it back in again and it might not be in stock for too much longer. Some of the colours are seasonal or one off (like that particular green) and all the colours in both backpack styles are completely out on the Japanese online store.

When you make it to Japan, let me know and i'll give you hotel recommendations for Tokyo and any other major city you might want to visit (Like Osaka, Kobe, Kyoto, Sapporo etc.)

I dress like that sometimes, but not that often. I am pretty eclectic and like all sorts of different approaches to outfit composition.

I'm with you on accessories. I'm trying to add more visual interest and depth to my always plain outfits. It's a slow process, would've been easier if I could buy any shoes I like. Unfortunately, most of them don't fit my fussy feet.

Gorgeous bag N. I like how the geometric panels play with the draping and angles of your skirt. Plus look wonderful with the sandals. You have a great eye. I do similar but my jam is blazers. I wear simple monochromatic -black, gray, navy, underlayers but my blazers and booties/boots are my statement areas. You have beautiful and unique pieces! Enjoy them, wonderful!!!

Very cool bag N. Have you seen the blog mgetsdressed? Although her style is very different to what I believe you have in mind, what is interesting is how she is currently going through a phase of wearing only approx 3 dresses and a pair of overalls and how she makes them look so different all the time with different accessories. She even considers her hair an accessory and styles it differently to match the mood/outfit. This is not a strict project she is doing, just something she is drawn to currently.

Thank you everyone. I think it would look even better with maybe a bracelet, or bracelet stack. I've been thinking I might save up for a Cartier bracelet for my 40th (I'm turning 34 this month). Probably will shop secondhand as well because Japan has such good quality reliable consignment stores and because I'd rather not support the gold mining industry directly. Then i'll keep to pass down to future family members. Unless I can find a fine jeweller using solid fairtrade or recycled gold. Most of the places I see using these materials tend to be fashion jewellers and they tend to only gold plate.

I still have quite a list of clothing items I want to add, so will work on that first and foremost and when I feel I have sufficient, i'll put the majority of my monthly budget towards some jewellery that can hopefully be passed down for generations.
