My NAS woes

I was a bad girl today. I KNEW I shouldn't have done it, but while I was at the upscale glasses place in the mall, I saw everyone walking around with their NAS bags and got very curious to see what the madness was about.

So I went and told myself not to try anything on, lest temptation and regret set in, and of course I didn't listen to myself. I tried on the most amazing jacket. It is no longer available online (if it ever was to begin with), but it went with this skirt:

It was a trapeze jacket with 3 huge black buttons. It was the last one left in a 2P so I know it's gone by now. The saleswoman asked if she could save it for me since there weren't any others left, but I reluctantly told her no My glasses have done me in as far as budget goes. It would have been a fantastic fall interview jacket and would have looked absolutely AMAZING with a pencil skirt and my new specs.

I just had to get that one off my chest.

Oh, Maya! That's so sad. Congratulations on making the right choice! In the long term you'll be so glad that you stuck to your budget.

Maya - I have an idea of how you feel. It was tough going shopping with Angie & the gals and being SO limited in my budget. But you made the right decision and I think the glasses are a great investment because you wear them all the time! And, you never know - the jacket may show up online again or even in your store.

Maya, I'm proud of you too! I decided at the last min to skip the NAS sale this year due to budgetary contraints. It is so tough though. Just remember, there will be another sale next year.

I can't imagine how hard that will be for you Michelle. Inge and Angie sure gave you a massive selection to choose from! I know you'll get at least a few fabulous statement pieces and necessities though, and that's what it's all about.

I feel much better after reading everyone's comments. I Just hate it when I regret NOT buying something, almost as much as I hate it when I regret buying something. Hopefully once my new specs are on my face, I'll feel better.

That's a super cute jacket, Maya, and I can imagine how good it must have looked on you. But you made ABSOLUTELY the right call. I applaud you for it, and I think you're in good company, as many of us are making tough choices right now and prioritize so much more rigorously than we might have a year ago and/or than we hope to need to a year from now.

I know I did the right thing and I'm not seeking encouragement (honestly!). I could not afford it now anyway unless I put it on my credit card, which I pretty much never use and certainly would not use for clothing. But I'm keeping an eye on it anyway. If by chance I CAN afford it sometime in the future (even at full price), it would be a great piece to have. I am trying to set myself up with a solid interview wardrobe so I don't have to go through this last minute panic every time.

Glasses were definitely the better investment. I'll probably be wearing those for at least 5 more years, if not more, and now I won't feel "ugly" when I need to give my eyes a rest from contacts.

A tough decision, but specs are your most important accessory, so good for you Maya!

Maya, you will live to shop another day!! I was on a very tight budget for the last 8 months while my husband was out of work. It was tough and there are quite a few things that I had to pass up (e.g. fabulous boot selection in Europe this past winter that actually fit my calves!). My husband recently found a job and so are money woes are behind us for now but really, no regrets looking back. Our tight budget enabled us to survive the recession unscathed - didn't lose our house, didn't jack up any credit cards, didn't have to borrow any money from anyone and didn't even touch our savings! There is nothing sweeter than financial freedom but of course it always comes with some sacrifice. My stylist was laughing at me when I went to get my haircut last week - I had not been in since January! I told her that on my tight budget, I had to prioritize and clothes were more important than getting my haircut...

Last year I noticed that many NAS items went on sale a couple of months later. I also saw quite a few of them at the Rack even later in the season. Not that many higher end things, but lots of Semantics. You might want to keep an eye out.

I do not have a Nordstrom rack near me I wish I did! Although 2's tend to sell out fast so I don't know how much I would find. But at least I could try...

Oh well, I'll live without it. Tomorrow I'm going to see yet another recruiter. If she miraculously finds work for me, I may call Nordies and see if they can hunt it down for me.
