My NAS DVF dress is here...not quite what I expected

Hi Everyone!

I have anxiously been awaiting this DVF wrap dress, which I ordered at the NAS presale. Online, on my computer screen, it looks like an ivory background with black cheetah spots. I loved it! But now that I can see it in person, it's definitely not ivory. It's more like a blush color, with an ivory ring around the black cheetah spots (see first photo). I'm not in love with the print the way I was before, but that might be due to the unexpected "change" from my expectation. Also, it often takes a little while for things to grow on me and then I end up loving them, so I'm willing to give it a chance.

I'd love a 'yay' or 'nay' vote on how the print actually looks on me. A lot of DVF prints are on the cool side, and I have very warm skin and hair so cool colors generally don't look that good on me. I tried on the other DVF dress in the sale with the snake print, but it didn't wow me. It has a lot of pink in it. Patience liked it on me, though.

So what do you think of the print near my face? I ordered a 10 for bust coverage, but then I broke down and ordered the 8 also just to see how they compare. I'll post photos of both sizes tomorrow when the 8 arrives. If I do keep the dress, I'll probably have the collar removed and shorten the sleeves to 3/4 length.

Hi Thistle! I will tomorrow. My husband has to take the full body shots because I don't have a full length mirror anywhere in my apartment.

I was actually very dissapointed in the dress, on me. It hated me: Too short and shapeless. I do like the print on you, however.

A full body shot would be nice. But... I will go ahead and say I'm leaning toward return. I'm not loving the colours of the dress. I didn't like the snakeskin one either, the blue and pink icked me. Can't say why.

Also I'm currently debating with myself about extensive alterations on new items.

Thanks for your honestly, Rachylou. I get almost all my clothes altered. Since I'm so short, almost everything is too long, and often sleeves are too long on jackets. I think the DVF Julian Two style (3/4 sleeves and no collar) looks better on me, but I've never found one in a print I really like. So the plan is to alter this one to make it more like the other style.

The fabric of the dress is really nice. I was outside on the balcony and it's very hot here today (100 degrees), and I actually found it fairly breezy. So that's a strong plus. I will definitely post full body photos tomorrow when the 8 arrives. It's okay if you want to hold off opinions until then.

Cathy, I know! It's like Hypercolor fabric or something! Usually what I see on the Nordstrom website is what I get. In real life and on my monitor, it looks most like photo #1 I posted.

I love the color and the print! I think it is much classier looking than if it was just black and white/ivory! I also think that the neckline looks really good on you - but, I'll wait for the full-length pics before I give a definite thumbs up or down!

Yeah, it is still reading white to me, too. I can't wait to see full length shots! First impression is that the print is good on you.

Ok! Yes, I think it would best to wait to see the full body shot. Your plan makes sense, re. alterations to get what you want.

On my screen, the first photo looks ivory/black and the second one looks white/black.

I'm looking forward to a full-body shot, too. But in general, if it doesn't wow you now, I'd pass. There will always be another DVF print coming down the pike.

That's what I mentioned in my description :). The jumper version (exactly the same pattern and colour) that I bought is blush and black too - and it works well with my blush moto! I actually much prefer the blush myself. It was an excellent surprise.

Don't remove the collar!!!

I vote keep the blush. So pretty with your rosy skin.

Funny, I don't see blush in the photos either, just ivory.

I tend to be very choosy about DVF prints (and I'm getting pickier about prints in general) -- I think I like maybe one out of every ten. Also so many prints look different up close than they do in the online photos. Even though I think this looks nice on you, I can understand being a little turned off if it's not what you expected.

I have the same style dress, and I would not remove the collar! I find it lays better than the other Jeanne style (or is it Julien) with no collar. And I just scrunch the sleeves.

Angie, I wondered if maybe the dress was going to turn out to be blush since I remember you mentioning the sweater you bought was. Janet, thanks for the info on the collar. I won't remove it, Angie! I might still shorten the sleeves though. It's so hot here and I prefer the look of shorter sleeves on me anyway. But I will play around with it and post both lengths for opinions in the full body photos.

I'm excited to see a bigger picture because it is hard to tell in these photos the color or fit etc, but in theory the blush sounds like a better compliment to your coloring. I love the classic print and the color difference seems modern and fun.

Ana the collar doesn't change the neckline, which is the same as collarless. The sleeves can be scrunched someither leave them too or just shorten to be full length on you & then scrunch sometimes?
