My NAS 2018 finds - YouLookFab Forum

Maybe I should title this post "My NAS 2018 finds . . . so far." Each year I tend to keep adding a piece here, a piece there, as the sale goes on for I don't know how many weeks.

I didn't have any real needs. Two things I had been kind of wanting and keeping an eye out for are 1) a bag to go with a favorite pair of brown lace-up booties that I got a couple of years ago in New York, and 2) possibly a pair of studded booties. I ended up bringing home both items, plus a pair of studded loafers and a fun cocoon-shaped windbreaker coat that had caught my eye in the NAS catalog. Nothing I need at all, but perhaps a nice little refresh for my fall wardrobe.

Here are my attempts to show the new items with some minimal styling, as I might wear them in the fall.

1-2: Paul Green Sofia loafer in wine leather, worn with tapered high-waist side-zip jeans (Ischiko, Wista), and wool cowl-neck pullover in olive and gray (OSKA).

3-6: Zella Olivia sheer parka in red tannin, worn with above outfit.

7-8: Halogen Hailey studded bootie in black, worn with above outfit.

9-11: Brahmin Nadia croc-embossed satchel in dusk, worn with brown herringbone pants (OSKA), wine pullover sweater (Eileen Fisher), laceup brown booties (Jo Ghost), and blush trench (London Fog). Also shown with brown lace-up booties and wine loafers.

I have some reservations. . . The bag is a bit formal or dressy for my casual style, but I love the colors, it's a great size for me, and it looks good with a lot of my wardrobe, so I figure it might be nice to have a little bit dressier bag. And I wonder how much I'll actually wear the sheer parka; I don't think it's water-resistant. But again, it just really called to me, so I figured why not give it a try.

What do you think? I welcome your ideas!

my thought is that you should keep it all if the parka is water resistant or if you would wear it enough. It all looks like your style to me.

That parka is amazing. The ruching is interesting and I can see a piece like that being really useful in Seattle if it's water-resistant. Get someone to squirt you with a spray bottle.

I like the boots, of course, and I'm working on my poison eye for loafers (it's getting better). I do see what you mean about the bag, but wow, does it look fab next to the New York boots in photo 10!

I like the bag. I don’t think of it as dressy, though, especially if you use the shoulder strap. As for the jacket, isn’t a lot of your rain really drizzle? Would it be adequate for that?

I wouldn't worry about the bag being to dressy--I think it's great. Love all the footwear.

I love my Brahmin tote, which was a gift to me. The texture is so distinctive, and I think it doesn't read quite as "polished" as many bags, making it easy to dress up or down.

I think the parka is lots of fun, and fits your arty style. In your climate, does it make sense to keep it if there is no water resistance?

Wow! It all seems perfect for you! The translucency and ruching of the jacket make it quite interesting as a layering piece, even if it's not truly water resistant. I can see what you mean by the bag seeming dressy, but the way you've styled it, the look is harmonious for a more casual vibe. Thanks so much for sharing all the pics!

I love it all. You have such a great sense of style. The bag looks interesting to me and not dressy. I like the texture. The transparent parka is so much fun. Is it useful? I would hope it would be somewhat water resistant. I like the idea of having someone spray you with a water bottle to find out.

I wasn’t sure about that parka but you convinced me. Agree with @Suz, Betsy Linda Rodin.

The bag seems as dressy as both of the studded shoes. Overall, it’s consistent with your style.

I saw the Zella parka when I was looking at the coats and I thought of you, so I’m glad you chose it. It’s a great color for you and I love the shape. Is It a breathable material or like wearing a garbage bag? I like the translucent material. The Paul green shoes look great, and again are in that perfect for you color. I have the Paul Green loafers from two years ago, and they are still looking good. They handle transitional weather without difficulty——- slush and sleet, etc. I’m surprised at how much I like the Brahmin bag. I haven’t been so fond of them when I see them pictured alone, but mix them with some wardrobe pieces and they shine. This bag coordinates with both pairs of shoes pictured and it adds great texture and some shine to your outfits. I love the magical impact one great accessory can have on an outfit. I think you have not on,y mastered the Linda Rodin look, but have gone one step further and have made it into something even better.

I love everything for your style. Except the Brahmin bag. Although I love the look and the quality it really doesn't look like your style. It just looks too traditional for how you express yourself via fashion. I think you can find another bag that is streamlined yet fashion-forward, and works with your boots.

I collected the Zella jacket when I first saw it in the catalog. But I think I'm too short to pull it off. I like it on you though.

Jenn and Style Fan, great idea to try spraying the jacket with water. Staysfit, the fabric content is nylon, so probably not too breathable, but it is so lightweight, and we don't have much sweltering weather here. Thanks for your compliment!

Denise, you pinpointed what I was trying to convey about the bag. Not so much dressy, but traditional. And yet, I do have a traditional streak; my trench coats, which I wear a lot, are an example.

Outfit 1 is perfect - sweater, jeans and shoes. Parka is great for warm rainy day. Love the idea of the satchel with those shoes and the juxtaposition as Angie just wrote.

I just tested the parka by misting it with a spray bottle. It is water-resistant. The water doesn't soak through right away, and the drops shake off the fabric easily. I wouldn't wear it in a hard rain, but Janet, you are right, we often have mist or light drizzle. I think it will work for a lot of our semi-wet days.

Still thinking about the bag. I'll have to try it with different outfits. Beth Ann, I like the Brahmin texture, too. What a nice gift!

Thanks, Jaime, for the compliment on the jeans outfit. The sweater is from last fall, a work piece, which I wore and wore and wore (since we must wear the brand at work), and I still want to wear it!

Suz, thanks for your enthusiastic welcome and for the Linda Rodin suggestion. I miss hanging out here on the forum, too! I've been busy with other things--bicycling a lot, mostly.

Denise, you could probably pull off the parka. It is so light and floaty, and the transparency makes it less overwhelming, too. Plus, the sleeves that can be ruched shorter. I think I'm only an inch taller than you. I got the XS, for reference.

I like all your finds and especially the bag. FWIW, my thoughts on the bag are that it is dressy - the shape makes it dressy, BUT the croc pattern gives it edginess, which I love. It looks super with your style and I think it can be very versatile and bring interest and joy to many different kinds of outfits.
