Finally a lot of my purchases have arrived; some took over a week to be shipped! I'll be able to go to a Rack soon and try on one last thing I'm unsure about.
Pickings were slim from my perspective. I didn't look at footwear since I have no needs in that area. Most of the colors were black, gray, or earth tones; none of those tempt me.
Keep
BR Cropped Hoodie in blue. This hoodie fits like my cropped cardigans, so wearable over skirts and dresses, but gives a very different vibe. It's also cozy and very comfortable. I've already worn this one.
Pastel Ankle Socks. These will be a slipper substitute for slightly chilly mornings or A/C moments. I have a lot of footie socks, but they're a little small and make my toenails hurt, of all strange things. These are roomy, and have a terry cloth lining for extra coziness.
Skarlett Blue Bra in pale pink. I'm keeping this since I've worn it, but I'm slightly regretting it; it's a tiny bit small at the moment (though that should change). I'm not really at a need for bras at the moment but this one is remarkably comfortable. It's a new brand to me and I'm glad I've tried it.
Returns
Wayf Wrap Sweater. The cropped fit is great and I love the bishop sleeves. I did find it a little itchy (though that is hard to assess in July) and I'm concerned by how low the wrap is in front. But most of all, I don't like any of the colors. This burnt sienna is okay, but I know I wouldn't reach for it. The green one is similarly too olive.
En Saison asymmetric shirt dress in blue stripe. I tried this because of Angie's recommendation. I'm usually between a Small and Medium in tops and dresses. Because I was stalking, I ordered the Small when it became available, and then the Medium a few days later. The Small was laughably small! I'm really surprised. The Medium arrived today and though I could actually zip it up, it wasn't otherwise improved:
- True high waist, not the natural/actual high waist. I am not long-waisted! It's not a flattering line with this cut.
- Small bust. I am not particularly large-busted.
- Wrap skirt is cut back to minimize the coverage. In my windy locale, this guarantees a very revealing wardrobe malfunction.
- Still quite small waist. Measured flat, the waistband was 29" on the Medium, with no wiggle room. Also, being a high waist, it doesn't hit me at my narrowest point.
I ordered the Large after trying on the Small, but now after trying the Medium I don't think it will improve enough to be wearable. What I really like:
- The sleeves, full and with tucks. (Not pleats, as Nordstrom calls them!)
- The fabric, which is very smooth and light, almost silky for cotton. The reviews calling it "cheap" are making the fallacy of equating "heavy" with "thick."
Expandable Jewelry Case in pink. I really wanted to like this. It's an unusual design, I have lots of travel cases but nothing really like this, I've run into issues needing a larger travel jewelry case for bulkier items. It's actually bigger than I expected. And it's weird that although the inside has three comparments, plus a couple of zippered ones, the three vertical dividers don't actually connect to the bottom! So anything but very thick bracelets will shift around anyway. I could sew them down, but I've rethought spending $30 for a too-large case that I really don't need and have to alter.
Keep/Return?
Caslon pink and red stripe cotton sweater. This is supposed to be oversized, so I sized down to XS. I was surprised how much I liked its shape and fit. The cotton knit feels good on as well. Usually this shade of pink is too bright/cool for me, but maybe the orange-red stripe warms it up enough. I'm hesitating because of budget and because technically I don't need it. It doesn't duplicate anything else I have, though, and may allow me to let go of some other sweaters. (The third picture shows the Medium, which arrived today. It confirms I'm not a fan of oversized.)
Caslon pale pink thermal polo. I don't have a long sleeve shirt in this very pale pink, the collar is distinctive, and the thermal knit is quite comfortable and a good weight and feel. Against, I do have a lot of long sleeve tees in many shades (thought not this one), and it's thin enough to show through my jeans. I wish it were a wee bit thicker to be warmer. The Small fits better than the Medium.
BR Cropped Hoodie in pink. This is the same as the blue one, but not on sale. I got so excited to see this color I ordered it as well! I don't strictly need it yet; but cute short jackets are a perpetual HEWI so I have a hard time of resisting. I'm thinking of returning and re-ordering hopefully if it goes on sale in the future, to save the money. Not sure at this point. There's also an ivory one I have on my wishlist.
Persun white cropped cardigan. White is the one cardigan color I don't really have, so I'm giving this a shot. I'll try it at the Rack tomorrow. I ordered both Small and Medium.
Any thoughts are welcome!
