“Go to the Saturday dance,” his mother said, patting him on the cheek. “That city blonde will be there.”
“But Saturday I need to varnish the barn,” he said. “Besides. Rachel and I used to always go dancing.”
“Rachel ran away with that surf instructor three years ago….it is time to move on,” his mother reminded him.
Carhartt jackets are, for me, another quintessentially American look, and here I associate it with the handsome love interest in a Hallmark movie. Rural, doing manual labor, classically masculine. These jackets are so iconically masculine, in fact, that when women wear them, their delicacy is enhanced—much in the same way it is by overalls or a letter jacket.
I wanted one for a few months, and finally got this black one. It is quite different from the original brown one with a collar. I really wanted the original, but when I saw it I knew it would look gimmicky on me. Sometimes it’s better to have the vibe of a look, rather than the original item.
