I am feeling a bit concerned today because Max, our cat, is ill and we don't know what is wrong with him.

On the positive side: he is eating, drinking, eliminating. He has energy and is alert.

On the negative side: he does not want to be touched. (This is why he kept me awake all night; usually I take him to his own bedroom for the night -- otherwise he is on the prowl and into mischief -- but last night, he did not want to be picked up and accidently scratched me when I tried to put him to bed.) And he is oddly twitchy. He is also hiding. He wants to be in the same room as us, but doesn't want to be near enough for us to touch him, so he finds spots to park himself, like behind some books on a deep shelf, or behind the computer. Normally he is very cuddly and social. Typically, he spends most of the day within inches of one of us, if not touching us. Now, he wants the company but can't bear the contact.

I spoke to the vet who said it was cause for concern but just to watch him for now and see how things develop -- if he gets worse, I will need to take him to the clinic. I looked up some possibilities -- there is hyperesthesia (the twitching) -- or he could have injured himself somehow, though we don't really know how.

He does go outside (I know, I know, but he is one of those who is impossible to keep in and it is a very safe location -- as these things go) so it is also possible that he has been injured outdoors. But there is no visible sign of injury.

This came on about 24 hours ago, maybe a bit more.

At the moment, he is resting. He seems to be doing a bit better than he was doing last night. But I am worried!

I feel a bit silly reporting this to my fashion friends, but I know how many of you love your own fur-babies, so I thought you'd understand.
