My job and the A/C

I love my new job and my co-workers. I do have one problem though. It is freezing. The owner is in charge on the thermostat and it is cranked down. In order not to wear long sleeves I will have to find a summer jacket. Any suggestions for light weight jackets? As the heat increases I will have to remove it as soon as I leave the office. I have been in frigid A/C before but not like this. Thanks for any advice!

Similar delima. The cold office temps are killing me! I'm bringing a black and white wool shawl as an extra layer and to block the a/c that blows right down my neck!

Is a denim jacket weight or blazer too heavy? I am being tempted by a light weight linen jacket in white on the Eileen Fisher site. But it is too pricey for me. I am hoping it will go on sale. It is a jean jacket style.
Nordstrom usually has some nice blazers in a cotton or rayon and in several colors. At least last year they did. The one I got is lined in polyester though, making it warmer than I thought it would be.

Oh a knit jacket does wonders and looks good without wrinkles. I wear them at work I share the office with guys who love the cold.

I once worked in a place like that and I was always frozen! I used to wear very fine wool knit cardigans that I could take off and put in my bag when I went out at lunchtime. They were warm but light and comfortable.

I sometimes wore a scarf as well. A couple of times, when it was particularly freezing, I wore gloves! Hint hint!! On glove days the temp would get turned up a little, but it was usually back down again within a couple of days.

I hate freezing in A/C! It makes it hard to function if you are shivering and have goosebumps! I work at multiple sites, some with freezing A/C, some without, and some where the temperature varies significantly from room to room. I purchased several toppers for the summer including Blazers. However, the item I think will be most useful is a long light weight cardigan sweater to keep at work (it's a bit like the blanket only more polished). It's easy to take off and store if the temperature gets warm in another space and I don't have to base my entire outfit on the look of the sweater like I would with a blazer.

I always have a wool cardigan at my desk in case of AC problems. My office is very unpredictable. But that doesn't work as part of a put-together outfit, so I'm interested in what others find.

When I worked in a lab space, the cold air really bothered my joints, so I always had a pair of fingerless wool gloves to keep my hands and wrists warm.

I found that when the AC was really cranked, cotton sweaters, etc. didn't do the job. I was still very cold. My solution was a couple of sheer wool-blend pashminas. They arevery light weight but incredibly warm but not overly warm so as to make you sweaty, etc. The natural fiber of the wool blend (I think with rayon) worked for me. I got a couple of them at an arts fair in Colorado a few years ago and I love them much. They always got comments about how stylish they looked, too. Sometimes, just being able to cover my legs and feet would warm me enough, something I could do with a pashmina that you cannot do with a cardigan or jacket. I cannot stand a cool breeze/wind blowing over me and the pashminas were a good answer. I also have a very sheer wool-blend cascade front sweater from Eddie Bauer that works well in the overly AC'd office situation.

Oh thank-you! Angie I am going to try those jacket. I am also going to take my pashmina and leave it my desk. It will be useful to throw over my legs.

I usually carry at least one or two jackets with me in summer for this same reason - I keep my own house pretty cool but even so, when I go into other places it's downright cold sometimes! I use a combination of a linen cardigan, a light cotton cardigan (summer weight cashmere would be nice too like jcrew's options), a heavier knit blazer and sometimes just a long sleeve button down I can adjust the sleeves (roll or wear down).

Oh how frustrating! And I'm pretty sure I've heard it's kind of hard on the body to be going from warm to cold like that all the time. So you have my sympathies for that, too.

I guess I'm among the lucky... our office is pretty much the same temperature all year long.

In that kind of frigid A/C, a lightweight wool topper (sweater/pashima/blazer) may be the only thing that will work. Linen and cotten don't seem to give the same protection. I suggest bringing something in a neutral color that you can leave at work since this seems to be an ongoing problem. Fngerless gloves are also a good idea.

Personally, I hate that kind of contrast between inside and outside
