My issue with Gap (ETA: Pics added)

I have many clothing items from Gap and have been very happy with them over the years...BUT...I really hate that Canadian Gap stores and the Canadian Gap online store do not sell petites like the American version does.

I ordered the neon green ponte knit Gap blazer that has been shown love here in both a small and medium to try out but they just don't fit me right. The medium is big in the chest and underarm area but buttons nicely at the waist whereas the small fits great in the chest and underarms but is too snug in the waist. I have a feeling a petite in the medium would be perfect but alas, that is not to be. Maybe I need an in-between size..."smedium"?

Pics added: before you even look at these, please keep in mind these were just taken by my 16-year-old son who was totally annoyed that I interrupted his video game with his best friend and took these 4 shots in under 3 seconds (perhaps less) and ran back downstairs...the lighting is crappy, the poses are crappy..I'm just grateful he let me do up my pants!

Pic #1/2 is of the small; pic #3/4 is of the medium. I do like the colour. What's the verdict?

On the size small.... does the waist matter if you don't button it? Would you want to be able to button it?

it's a good question Brenda and I do know that Angie says you don't need to be able to do a blazer up if it fits everywhere else...maybe will snap a pic and see what the group thinks.

That's so crummy! I had no idea that my Canadian sisters were getting such a raw deal at some of the same stores.

Forgive me if I'm sharing information that you already know, but do you read the blog Alterations Needed? I know she's posted about some experiences getting blazers tailored to perfection, and she is a petite (and I believe she's also very very small, like 00 small, so often needs items taken in.)

I rather like the small on you, if you weren't planning on buttoning. I'm not fond of the fit of the medium on you at all. How do you like the color?

I like the colour Aida but I wouldn't say I absolutely love it. Something just seem slightly "off" about the fit, either size. Am I being overly picky?

Hmm have we seen you in a bright color like this? I can't remember any. Blazers are hard to fit; from the photos, I really like the fit in #1 but of course my view is limited How do the arms fit? I find that the arms are what really make or break blazer fit for me.

EDIT: As blazers are my favorite, if it doesn't make me feel fabulous right away I usually will pass on it (since I'm a lazy bum and don't get alterations *shhhh*). I don't think you can be too picky; once you know the blazer fit you like for you, it'll become easier to tell if it's "right" for you or not.

I like the small on you. I NEVER button my jackets. If they button over my apple belly, they are inevitably too big on the shoulders. I don't love the color on you but it could be a fun trendy addition to your wardrobe. I think you could make it work if you really love it.

This jacket doesn't come in petites, even in the US. I didn't bother trying it because I know it's not going to work for me.

I second "no need to button" advice: M is too big = not good fit.
If it makes you feel any better Gap Canada also does not carry Tall sizes...:-(

This is definitely the brightest colour I've tried on - I have my red jacket but it's nowhere near as bright as this. The arms fit well, other than the sleeves needing shortening (I have them tucked in for these photos). The one area I'm slightly concerned about is the area where the upper chest meets the underarms meets the shoulders but it's hard to tell in these pics 'cause of the wonky angles and lighting. What do you think of the colour for me?

I also think the small looks great on you.
IKWYM about wondering if you're being overly picky. I will try on a jacket or blazer and point to one little spot and say to my husband "see how it's doing such and such right here?" and he looks at me like I'm speaking greek and says, "I dont' know what you're talking about, it looks great to me dear!"

OK..I have been craning my neck and squinting my eyes to see if you have any room to move the buttons on the small in more. If you do , then that will give you a little most room in the waist. Otherwise, I think that you will have to take the medium in around the bust a little.

I really hope that you can move the buttons on the first. I like it on you.

Shannon, this post reminds me of a friend's story about her mom who always orders her steak "between medium-rare and medium"!

Similarly, we need a size between small and medium. I kept this in a S thanks to MaryK. The XS fit me the way the small fits you here and I felt it was too small because I want the option of buttoning even if I never do.

I am really confuzzled by my size lately. Also by the randomness on petite offerings and why they are not ever in stores, especially in pants. Not everyone who walks in a store is tall!

That's exactly it Una - I want the option of buttoning it. Or what if I want to layer something slightly thicker underneath?

I'm just not feeling the love for this jacket - it's only about a 6.5 on the scale so I think they'll be going back and I'll continue to look for something better.

TS, I wonder if a different bright like purple or watermelon would be more appealing for you? Both of those would be lovely with all of your muted grays, blacks, and purples.

Aida - I love the idea of a watermelon colour and I do need something that works with more of my other pieces - I just don't see the green having many friends in my closet!

Anybody wanna help me search out a bright purple or watermelon shorter/slightly cropped fitted blazer???

Oh Gap. I also have issues with their sizing, so you are not alone!

You definitely don't seem invested in this blazer, so I'd agree with some of the other posters and you yourself and say keep looking!

I'm in Canada too, so maybe I can give you a bit of help with some colourful blazers I've seen around! I don't know where exactly you are, so I don't know if you have access to all these stores, but I hope you do!

Jacob has some really beautiful hot pink and royal blue knit blazers if you're interested in those colours.

OK, so Forever 21 is going to be way more hit and miss than even Gap, and the quality's not there, but seriously, last time I went in they had every single colour blazer imaginable, and they're all in one area (in my local one, all right at the entrance!) so you don't need to rummage around in the store. xD

As Aida mentioned, Zara's got some colourful blazers in stock now too. I don't know what colours they've got though!

I'll see if I can find some more options for you! (Canadian solidarity, yeah!)

EDIT: Le Chateau sometimes has coloured blazers. I don't generally shop there anymore due to personal reasons, but i have definitely seen red and blue blazers, and I do recall seeing more varied colours recently.

If you like the fit of the medium except for the waist, just keep it and get it taken in! Be sure to shorten the sleeves too, or roll them up! SWEET JACKET!!! I want one now.

Okay, so I posted before I read the replies. If YOU don't like it, don't keep it! Personally, I think it's sweet and would rock it for sure (except GAP clothes don't really come in my size. Maybe the petite version would fit me, but I'd have to order it and it's just a pain to do so).

Shannon, I like the small the best. Sometimes I just button the top button if I want my blazer held together, would that work? Also, do you have a Winner's close to you? I just bought a bright green blazer (not neon like the Gap one, but more of a Kelly green) and also a grey knit blazer. They had a ton of other ones: pink, bright blue, a really cool black/white stripe (expensive), green, etc. Although, another Winner's didn't have as many. Anyway, just something else to try.

Also, I can sympathize with you over the Gap/ON sizing offerings. I have the same problem with their tall pants. They have way more choices in the US site. My parents live in the US, though, so I am able to go shopping their some of the time. It would be alot easier if I could just get them here, though!

As Aida brought up, I also thought the color was a departure for you style-wize - a bright purple sounds more cohesive with the rest. Not arguing against the green, because hey maybe you want a departure for Spring. Just depends if you are trying to hone in or branch out.

Definitely hone in - and both you and Aida are spot on Rae - what the heck would I wear this blinding green with anyway??? I'm going to look for either bright purple, bright blue or watermelon. I just got rid of a whack of closet orphans and definitely don't need to start getting new ones!

Awwww! I am bummed you aren't keeping the green. I think it was the perfect punctuation for your columns of color and your black and white blouses. But if you aren't feeling it, you aren't feeling it. Another color should definitely be on the list. You look super in saturated color!
