and she has no idea I exist and I only found her name 2 years ago. I really want to tell you about her. She is not my mother, I have never met her, and she lives in a very poor village in Africa but she has changed my life. Her name is Sofia. I searched for her on Google a couple of years ago and found her. I think of her every, single week of my life. I have for 14 years. This nameless, poor woman, from a village in Mozambique....on my mind and inspiring me.
14 years ago there were great floods in Africa. Many people climbed up trees in order to avoid the floods. Some were up there for a week or more. Sofia was pregnant and gave birth in the tree after 3 days. There were some other family members there too and her MIL helped. In a TREE with her MIL ! OMG ! A South African paramedic hanging from a plane finally reached her to help.
PS Angie's post inspired mr to write this.
Whenever things get tough, I think of her. She taught me that if she can give birth in a tree above floodwaters, I can handle just about anything. As long as I have access to what I need to deal with "stuff" I will be ok. : )
So when I gave birth, when I had cancer, and so many other things, I would think to myself....if that woman from Mozambique could face it with nothing, in a tree ! I can face it with everything ! So there you go. I read up on her whenever I can find something. She has a home in South Africa now that the government gave her. Her kids go to school . Her attitude is so incredible and she considers Rositha a special child and looks at is as a blessing. Since she speaks Portuguese because Mozambique was a Portuguese colony, I have decided to write to her and thank her. And maybe send her a little gift, a scarf.
