My first "find"!

Hi all. I am a new member exploring this site - first I discovered Angie's blog, then the forum, and now "finds". What a great idea for sharing information about purchases and potential purchases! And I was pleased with how easy it is to use (bit of a techno-phobe).

Anyway, I am in Australia, so I know my particular "find" (a pair of boots) is out of season for y'all in the north, but it's fun to share.

Question: what is the "shopping" and "history" category? I think "considering" and "wardrobe" are fairly self explanatory.

Any other tips/hints about "finds" people would like to share?

Welcome, Brooklyn. I'm glad that you collected those boots. I was looking at them earlier today and like that height.
I use "shopping" in finds to remind myself that I want to get that piece when I can't at the moment. I will use "history " when I have removed a piece from my wardrobe or returned it. I may still want to access it for a post.
I am starting to use the additional photos feature for photos of how I've styled the piece or to show other pieces that work especially well with it
Eventually I want to make ensembles and capsules for different seasons and special events .my dressy capsule, my funeral capsule, and travel capsules...both those that have worked in the past and pieces that work especially well for packing light.

I can't answer your questions, as I don't use those two categories, but I DO love your style and the new boots!

I use shopping for items that are on order, or items that have been purchased recently and I'm deciding whether to keep or return.

I use history for items that I've tried and which didn't suit me but they are still a category I haven't filled. E.g. I moved some shoes to History instead of removing them from finds today, so that I can compare future shoes under consideration with shoes I've already panned. I hope that will help me avoid remaking the same buying mistakes.

Your boots are bomb! I look at the new Finds every day, getting lots of inspiration from what others have uncovered.

I have just started using "Finds" also. Mine are all Custom Finds as I don't think I can collect from Australian retailers I have spent that last two evenings getting my Finds up and there is more to come. I love that I can in a sense catalogue my wardrobe this way.

Love the boots! I am assuming you ordered on line? May I ask how the shipping was? I have found Nordstroms shipping a little pricey, and did they arrive quickly?

I'm a veteran who's been too embarrassed to ask this question, since maybe it was covered during my hiatus, but how does Finds work? Can a newbie help me out here with the basics?

Will follow along to read the expert tips too...

If Greg is reading this -- perhaps the Finds page needs a FAQ or how to or something... I just went there again and I still can't figure it out. I vaguely recall it being introduced on the blog, but I don't think I was active enough at the time for it to sink in for me. I know how to like and add other people's finds. I don't know how to post my own finds.

Hi Brooklyn. I love your boots and the way you wore them. The photo looks like it should be in a magazine! I love the roos too...scary things though. We have had the occasional koala in our backyard, although not so many lately.

Love those boots - and your style! I'm not a user of Finds either - being Canadian, many of the items aren't readily found here. I also admit to yet having figured out what it's for other than a wish list? Anyways, welcome to YLF!

Welcome to YLF, Brooklyn. I too love those boots (and the rest of your outfit and your sweet pup!-)

This blog post explains how you can use the different folders. Here's a short excerpt:

There are four folders:

Considering: The default folder for all new finds you collect.
Shopping List: A folder for items that you are getting ready to buy.
Wardrobe: A folder for the items currently in your closet.
History: A folder for items that you no longer own.

On the individual item cards - that you open by clicking on the "i" in the left corner and then on "Details" - you can add extra info about the item. E.g. When I move a pair of shoes to "History", I write a few words about why I retired them (not comfy enough, no longer my style, worn into the ground...).

Shiny, here's the blog post Greg wrote when we first introduced the new feature. It explains into detail how you can collect your own finds or how to collect a find someone else has added.

Collecting a new item that isn't yet in Finds, works like this:
- First, install the YLF Collect bookmarklet in your browser. It's easy, just drag the bookmarklet (found on this page) into your browser's bookmark bar.
- Whenever you are in an online store that is supported (you can find the full list here, and it continues to grow*) you can then collect the items you like by clicking on the bookmarklet. In the window that opens, you can select a category for your item, add notes if you want, and then click on "Collect this item". Et voilà.

* You can always send us suggestions for stores you'd like to see added via the YLF contact form.

Joy, Annabelle, Deborah, thanks for the input on finds. I think I will use it as a catalogue as you suggest. Maybe I will used "history" to record my mistakes!

Deborah - the postage from Nordstrom was expensive (around 40 AUD). I wont pay that much unless the item is deeply discounted. At the time I bought them they were discounted because Nordstrom was doing a price match thingy. The total (with postage) came to under 200 AUD, which I thought was a fair price. It took about 10 days to arrive. And I am so glad you are adding Australian items! I assume that means they will appear on the collected items? I will try to do the same when I get more advanced. It much easier when it is a supported retailer. (BTW, quick cross post, I am in NSW and the photo was taken while visiting the Southern highlands.)

Inge - thanks for the welcome and for chiming in with that helpful info.

Shiny - this is what I did (slightly different from above) - open both YLF and the retailer's site on your desktop. You need to be logged into YLF. Go to the "Finds" page on YLF and left click "Help". You will see a button marked "YLF Collect". Right click that button, then select "Add to favourites". Click "Add" when the box appears. Then go to the retailers page (making sure you are on the page of the item you want) and left click the star icon at the top right of your page (your favourites). You should see "YLF Collect" listed there. Left click that and a box will appear saying collect item, click collect and it's done. Hope this helps!
