I am a little late in jumping on the band wagon here about wish lists, but I still haven't decided on everything I want.

Top items on the list:
- A new winter coat, lower-thigh/knee length, in a faux black or other fun color

- Straight leg dark wash jeans that I can wear with fun, dressy flats, or heels

- Fun, dressy flats (ballet style, preferably)

- Fun heels, either another pair of round-toed pumps or maybe one of the new oxford bootie style, which I have definitely warmed up to

- A pair of smart casual knee high boots that I can pull over jeans or wear under skirts (my only pair are 3 inch heels)

- blouses, blouses, blouses and lighter knit tops

- Most importantly, what I really want this year is a new bag. I would like a tote bag in black or another fun but neutral color.

For the past few years, I have used a tote bag from JCrew for work and for travel (to carry on flights). It has held up and still looks wonderful. I love it for work. J Crew no longer carries it, but it looks amazingly similar to this: http://www.ebags.com/lodis/aud.....7303870309

I will probably keep that as a work bag because it is conservative enough, but nice. I need a new bag for everyday, and days when I work but don't need to carry files or look conservative. I want a tote because I usually travel by foot or bike, and I need a bag big enough that I can keep stuffing stuff into it as the day goes on (shopping or whatever), but I want something fab, stylish, and timeless. I love the clean cut of my other tote, and I want something similar, but not so conservative and work-ish.

Nothing suits, though. I think this search will, indeed, take the longest of all. (Big Sigh).

I bought these flats over the weekend, and they felt great at the store...They didn't have my colors in my size and are shipping them to me this week, so I can let you know how they wear for a longer time frame...

ooh. I love those Franco Sarto ones. Those are just what I had in mind. Please let me know if they are what Angie would call 8 hour shoes. When I wear flats, I wear them to walk. In particular, let me know if the back is stiff. I have narrow heels, and extremely sensitive heels (all shoes, no matter what, give my heels blisters). Ballet shoes with a stiff point in the back just kill.

I’m sticking up for J Crew. I spent 2 hours in our Seattle J Crew with a client yesterday and she looked fantastic in everything. I like their current range. Like that they’ve mixed 3 lifestyles and a choice of colours. Perhaps you’ll find something you like there this season after all Christie.

Funny you should say that. I just received the fall catalog, and there are a few items I like. I do love all of the pencil skirts.

The Me too "NEbraska" flats came today. They have a very soft heel (stretchy), but they seem to run a size small. FYI. I'll have to exchange them for a larger size.

Angie - is the JCrew in Pacific Place open now? Or, were you at a different location? I'd love to go check out some of their things in person as I liked a lot that I saw online.

Christie,,,what specifics are you looking for in your tote? Does it have to be leather? Or would you prefer it not be leather? Do you prefer any outside pockets? Do you want the straps long enough to sling over your shoulder? What is the max and min size requirement? Would you consider a funky bright print? Or do you prefer solid? If solid, do you have a color preference?

Nice list Christie. Having boots to wear both over jeans and under dresses is a tall order. It’s usually one or the other because the fits need to be different. Keep us posted though. You might get lucky, especially if you zone in on a casual, slouchy boot style.

Christie, I was just looking at the Boden catalog and it looked like they had a few boot styles that could possibly work for pants and casual skirts? I'm not sure, but what about these:

Would those be appropriate?

Nicole, I would like for my tote to be relatively sleek with as few outside pockets or zips or anything like that. I prefer it to be narrower and deep so I can fit it in the basket on my bike. I also would like to be able to put it over my shoulder. Colors, I'm not so picky about. I think plain, solid colors go well with more outfits, and I would like something that I can match up with multiple outfits, but if I found something with a print that I liked, I might take it. In general, I'm not the biggest fan of prints just because I have a small wardrobe and need everything to be versatile.

Angie, why is it difficult to match up boots with skirts/over jeans? I didn't realize that you couldn't do both.

The fit of the boots are different, Christie. Boots for over jeans are wider.

If you wear the same boots without jeans, chances are high they won’t fit closely against your calf which is how boots should fit when you wear a skirt or dress. It’s bad boot fit if the boots are too wide around the calf area. Slouchy boots give you “more room to play with” and that type of boot could work both ways. But you have to love the look, which judging by what you’ve posted is not what you’re after.

In most cases, you have to financially commit to the look, or wear ill fitting boots with skirts. I’ve spent so much time finding clients boots for tucking and non-tucking, it’s insane. My conclusions are the same.

I'm afraid then that the boots I use for dresses/skirts may be too big. I'll need to try them on and take a photo.

Would those JCrew boots work better for skirts or for tucking?

I can't say because I don't know how they fit on your leg! They are fab though. I like that look too.
