I am starting my fall formulas with culottes, as I find those the trickiest type of bottom to style. I also find them the freshest and most interesting looking pants at this moment as well. I have discussed the shoe pairing in detail in the introduction post, so will not further talk about them here.
I have four pairs of culottes and willnot be adding more. They are:
1. A dark faded black pinstripe denim pair I hacked ( my find is an old picture of them full length)
2. A recently purchased clearance tweed pair - I was going to tailor/shorten an old pair of tweed wide legged pants and even posted about this, but then stumbled upon the perfect pair on clearance for cheaper price then the cost of hemming+waist alteration. The rise was higher and better for me too.
3. A dark denim pair with sailor buttons. I need to shorten these a little, in some photos I have folded them under to the desired length, and in some they are unrolled.
4. A medium wash shorter faded denim pair from last year.
My first fall formula is based on combining culottes with the trendy bomber jacket, as seen in various inspiration photos (#1-#5). The layering top is very simple: a tee, a crewneck/turtleneck sweater in solid or stripes, or a simple button-down; so that all the focus is on the jacket. The layering top is typically tucked and the jacket on the shorter side, so that all the focus is on the waist line. A variation of the formula can be achieved by using a shorter moto or denim jacket (inspiration photos #6-#10). If the bomber is lightweight (as all of mine are), then they can serve as an indoor topper; and it the colder weather, the outfit can be worn under a warmer coat when outside. The same outfit formula can also be worn with cropped kick flares/straights instead of culottes.
I have a couple of thinner bombers: super thin silky grey, cream lace, space print, and a light grey merino knit. I have put together three different looks for each pair of culottes, two with an actual bomber and third with a different jacket. They are more/less inspired by the inspiration photos. Here are the outfits:
#11: Black pinstripe denim culottes with striped tee, patterned bomber and black patent tall boots (inspired by #1)
#12: Black pinstripe denim culottes with black turtleneck, grey knit bomber and black high shaft booties (inspired by #4)
#13: Black pinstripe denim culotte with the same turtleneck and booties, topped with black leather moto (inspired by #10)
