My wardrobe is heavy in essentials, which is fine by me. When I did this, I realized that I am still relying on black bottoms more than I would like. I need to keep that in mind when I am shopping.

Wow- they all look just perfect for you! Do you think of olive as a color or a neutral? Meaning would you always pair it with brown, black, white- or sometimes not?

I am going to claim army green as well, which functions as a base color in my wardrobe, as an alternative to my other base colors of black, cocoa brown, and a mid-tone grey. The brown and grey have not been much in the retail mix where I have been shopping, but the green has and it’s been fun to build it out.

Carla, I think you are right. Often olive is seen as a colour. I see it as a neutral.

Your essentials are true to your style and tell the tale. Agree that olive is a neutral, and although I dislike it near my (olive) face I love it in shoes, bags and bottoms. Goes great with the black, white, blue and pink elements in my wardrobe.

Suz, thank you for your kind words. I am so glad I bought that olive long puffer and the olive boots. They have been workhorses this winter. I can go for long walks in cold temps and be comfortable.

Angie, I added the word neutral. I have happily settled into my essential rich wardrobe. It works for me.

Nemosmom, I agree that olive is very versatile. It goes with so much.

Shevia, olive does look good with black. I do the reverse—Olive near my face and black on the bottom.

I'm going to copy your entire collection here for reference - and for a reminder of how to put together a casual capsule. I struggle with having the right essentials in my casual wear - and thus always feel like everything is a stand-alone outfit. You are reminding me I need to sort out my footwear issues for my olive Sanctuary pants. I have both cords and cotton joggers, and am not wearing either one of them this winter for lack of a great pair of boots/winter sneakers /whatever. Also dying of envy over that olive green Lulu puffer. STUNNING!

Lisa, I am flattered! Do you have a winter hiking boot or Blundstone? Maybe that is not the look you are going for. I do love the Lulu puffer. It is incredibly warm.

I have a winter trail walking/hiking boot from Columbia - but I bought them strictly for that purpose alone and wouldn't be caught dead in them in any other setting - lol. They are purple and grey - haha! I'm not into Blundstones - am really looking for something more "fashiony" or edgy and I don't even know what this is right now.

I admire your effortless style and this is a relatable yet aspirational casual capsule for me. I also wear a lot of olive including my winter puffer. It does function as a neutral for me, one I pair with wine and burgundy tones, mustard, blush, etc. I think what I’m reminded of once again from checking out your items is that I shouldn’t be afraid to pay more for nicer brands just because the items are casual. The details and quality make a difference.

Lisa, fashion or edgy footwear is a fantasy for me, so that is why I never think of it. I am interested to see what you come up with.

Jules, olive is wonderful with burgundy. I love that combination. I realized that if I invest in quality and have a small wardrobe, it works better. I was also travelling almost half the year pre-Covid, so a smaller wardrobe worked for me.
