My essentials are so boring! But maybe that’s the point. As Angie said, they are the glue that holds the outfit together and not the interesting or exciting part of the outfit. I love this topic that comes up once a year. I think people tend to be confused about it because of the word “essentials.” That makes it seem like something you can’t live without! And for some of us that would be our statement pieces. But I think I get it that we are talking about necessary pieces that are neutral, not so exciting, but nevertheless essential. Mine have changed a bit because of Covid and I seem to be wearing leggings and other comfy pieces way more often. So here is my current list right now during winter in the pacific northwest of the USA. Boring but functional and essential!
Jeans-black, dark blue, and medium blue skinnies and straights or girlfriend
Ankle pants-plain black and navy
Leggings- cotton rich (not shiny like exercise gear) black, gray, and navy
Cardigans- solids in black, charcoal gray, burgundy
Soft toppers that are thigh length and longer- black, gray, burgundy
Crew neck pullover sweaters and knits- solid black, gray, burgundy, some stripes
Simple shift or A-line dresses or tunics to wear over leggings- solid or patterned black, gray, navy, light denim
Shoes- running Tennies, fashion tennies in white and light blue, black boots, brown boots, black booties
