@ Helena - Last year I asked Angie if red could be an essential, and she advised it would not. She identified that my wardrobe essentials acted as anchors to my outfits.
@ star - I’m currently musing about how neutral coloured items could become essentials (like camel or brown) but I realize that I haven’t committed to acquiring items in those colours in sufficient amounts, or used them enough to really consider them essentials. I’m thinking about my puffer (Finds). It’s a great neutral colour, and a workhorse, but not an essential. I could just as easily have it in black, or navy blue - and wear it just as much - but in black, or navy blue it would be a subtle anchor, whereas the ‘beige’ puffer actually ‘pops’ in outfits! Maybe it’s a completer item?
I’ve had red sneakers and currently have red combat boots, but they are not my wardrobe essentials. They are statements and workhorses. I’ve replaced white sneakers with white sneakers, and black sneakers with black, but I haven’t replaced my red sneakers, or my olive sneakers. I might add yellow ones this year! I’ve had multiple black/white or navy/white mariner T’s in my closet for the past 7 years.
Clear as mud?
