My DYI hair cut- what do you think?

Well I was going to add this to the other post I made last month about desperately needing a new hair cut. I decided to DYI.
I've done this twice now, and am happy with the results.
I am the kind of person that gets their hair done at a salon only to either hate it, or find myself with a pair of scissors fixing it. Plus those places are mighty expensive, and I just don't have that cash at the moment.
I've taken a few photos after the cut to show you what I did to get the back trimmed. I also 'freestyled' the layers around my face. later by sectioning off this section and letting loose with some scissors.
I haven't got make up on. No point today, gardening and cleaning and maybe gym if I can squeeze it in. So I'm in old clothes too.

Anyway- here are the pics.

So what do you think? Should I have gone to a real hair dresser, or can I get away with this for a while?

Awesome! I've been doing my own hair for a year and I'd never go back to a "salon". Eww.

Your hair looks good parted on the side like that. I'd suggest saving up for a good professional haircut, then maybe you can keep it trimmed and go less often. The hard part is finding that great hair stylist. The most important thing is that you feel that you are looking good and it fits your personal style and life. After all, your hair is the accessory that you are always wearing, more important than any item of clothing or even specs.

Joy I think half the battle is finding a great stylist, then the other half is trying to pay for them! LOL.

I got so sick and tired of doing so much homework to tell a "stylist" what I wanted (and then cutting it myself when I got mad at what they did and how wrong it was) ... lol; I like my own hair - but of course, it means I have to live with the consequences of it if it turns out terrible!

Cute as Lyn Very brave to cut it so short.

Here I was thinking that YLF people wouldn't understand me cutting my own hair. I guess I just don't think it is what the 'classy' people do. You disproved that theory all together.

I got sick of paying $45-50 when I got brave enough to go to a stylist, only to come home hating the cut and doing my own little fixes. Not to mention that that is a huge amount of money to me to be spending every 6weeks or so like they recommend.

Now I've figured out a way to keep the split ends at bay, I think I'll be doing this regularly. Being I can do it with the kids entertained at home is a real bonus.

I just used regular scissors. But eventually it would be nice to buy some real hair cutting scissors as I also cut DD and DS's hair. And occasionally DH's, but he prefers to get our friend to cut it.

Being a short cut, it's very expensive to maintain and I hate taking time out of my day to cut my hair ... now I can get a "hair cut" at 3 am ... if I really wanted to! Especially if my bangs are in my eyes all day and I am angry at them!

I bought a set of hair cutting equipment for my mom for mother's day a long time ago; she cuts my sister's hair and my dad's hair too! You can do it! My mom got some videos from the library and away she went to the races! My mom refuses to touch my hair right now; she doens't do short hair

You gals rock! Mum, you did a great job! I've never seen your technique before. I've trimmed my own hair for about 8 years now, too. Thankfully, I don't require a complicated style... it started out of a desire to save money, but I don't think I'll go back to the salon any time soon.

Looks great! I love how the layers fall kind of softly around your face.

I started experimenting with self-cutting when I had bangs because the fast rate my hair grows means I had to trim every two weeks. Since then, I've experimented with freestyle layering. I still go to the stylist when I'm getting my hair shorter all over (about 1-2x per year), but I have no problem doing a little snipping on my own in between now.

I tried to trim my fringe the other day and unfortunately I accidentally cut into the sides of my hair as well. Oopsies!

I think it looks great. I once got my brother to cut my hair and had several people come up to me saying 'wow where did you get it done?" I just said the name of the town we lived in.
