I am soo with you on every step of your logic process. There are one or two haircuts that just WORK for me....but once I've had them for 2 or 3 years, I start to worry that it's looking stale....then I try to grow it out and it's just a mess.

You made the right decision and your daughter is a hair genius. Now do you get to cut her hair?

I actually really like both - you have great hair! But I do think the asymmetrical is cooler and signature for you. I know think this type of style came back in a few years ago after disappearing for a while, but it was never a super popular mainstream look. So IMO, avant garde enough that it doesn't really date. Plus it just really suits you and your hair type, and frames your face as you mention - people see you and not your hairstyle first, IYKWIM. Effortless, like your style in general. That's "hair goals" for me - a style that takes advantage of natural texture, suits one's style and features, and is more about the wearer than current trends.

I love the new (old) cut the best - it really highlights your face and also your beautiful hair. DD did an amazing job, it looks professional. I think for most of us there are a few hair styles that work best and just feel right, DYOT rules!

Wow, she did an awesome job! I love your asymmetric cut and think it is a timeless signature for you. I liked mine asymmetrical too, but it’s too hard to maintain right now (I had one haircut a few weeks ago after going without any professional hair appointment since February), so I’m letting it grow out.

She did a great job! I’m sooo impressed

OMG! I could have written this exact post, Jaime!

I grew out my hair (unwillingly) for the first few months of COVID while everything shut down. I had the exact same experience as you - my curls on one side, which I had been happy to let do their thing when my cut was asymmetrical, somehow felt limp, tired, messy, unstructured and lifeless when on both sides - and I felt old and tired somehow. (To be clear, your cut looks great, both grown out and asymmetrical - but I know how you felt because I felt the same.) I too went down the rabbit hole of curly hair maintenance videos and then I just decided it was too much. I like the sharpness, edge, and structure that the asymmetrical cut gives me - like I styled it on purpose, not like i just ran my hands through the tired mop on my head. And somehow, even when my curls aren't perfect, they still look pretty good - when they are just on one side!

I think it also balances out the silver in my hair, because I find that when grey hair is frizzy and uncontrolled, it just makes me look older and tired. I was happy to get my sharp cut back, and started getting compliments again too. I think it's just the cut for me (until I decide I need a change again )

I love asymmetry, and I love your asymmetric hair cut. You look freaking fabulous!

You look gorgeous! Her "sister" in California is good at cutting hair too, but not at your DD's level quite yet. O_o

She did a great job! You look fantastic.

Thank you again so much, you all "get" me!
Barbara Diane - What a nice thing to say!
Brooklyn - Very proud. Yes, bring on the treatments, vaccines, and sensible behavior!
Jessikams - Exactly! And I have trimmed her hair a bit, but she would never let me do anything fancy .
Jules - What a great way to put it! It is the effortless part that really drew me back
Bijou - Yes, I think you are right about hairstyles, at least for some of us.
Janet - Exactly! Maintenance is the bug with these kind of haircuts.
kkards - me too!
Roxanna - OMG! I am gasping at how well you EXACTLY articulated how I felt. "limp, tired, messy, unstructured and lifeless when on both sides" I couldn't put it any better. Yes, it is amazing how the structure on one side forgives whatever happens on the other isn't it? YES, to feeling old and tired with the grey being a frizzy mess. Thank you hair sister!
cindysmith - Thank you!
CocoLion - I will tell her! Talented and beautiful aren't they !

ETA: Karie - Thank you!, Harrysalvatore Thank you, for appreciating that aspect of things, Staysfit Actually she is the gift that keeps giving .

your daughter is very talented, you are lucky. And you are a brave and good mother, because you trusted your daughter. Although I think quarantine is a good way to unwind, have fun, and in the end why not? As they say, once we live

Shevia, she did an amazing job, and what a precious gift you have given your daughter!
