The Backstory: I always thought I was a pear until Angie and a few other YLFers told me I was a rectangle. Of course I still thought I was right and everyone else was wrong, but then I got out my measuring tape, and gulp, I was the one who was wrong!

Out of the Mouths of Babes: Just before starting reading group one day, I was chatting with my small group of third graders about their favorite TV shows. One of my students mentioned his favorite show was Sponge Bob Square Pants, and then added, "You know, you remind me of Sponge Bob, you're kind of shaped just like him!" Now, he really meant this as a compliment, but I did start laughing. I'm a rectangle for sure!

The Nerd Outfit: Or, the ultimate de-bombshelling. I wore this side zipped sweatshirt (F21) with my VC tube. To further "nerd up" the outfit, I wore my Trotters loafers and my big, nerdy glasses. The glasses look better IRL then they do in photos - they are actually green, not black, and the camera's flash makes the lenses look darker.

The Other Outfits: #3 -The same sweatshirt as in #2, this time worn with my Gap flares and red booties. The next time I wear this top I am going to try it with the zips unzipped and a button-down underneath. #4 is a very comfy, loose fitting top from Gap. I'm not sure if the colors in it are right for me, but the top sure is comfortable.

Laughing at your story, Karie! (I loved your title and had to look.) I'm taking notes on your styling of the skirt, since I was thinking of wearing my tube skirt today and couldn't figure out an outfit! Love that sweatshirt on you and the fun nerd look. I'm really swooning over the flares and red booties--divine! The last outfit is definitely different colorwise, but I do think the blouse works on you. Very pretty. I bet you could wear it with gray bottoms or blue jeans, too, but I think the white is so fresh, especially for fall.

I LOVE that new plaid sweatshirt. Jeepers. F21 is like a goldmine for you and Una. She finds great stuff there as well!

I like the new Gap blouse on you, too! It's soft, so gives you a more "blended" look than you often wear. But the effect is harmonious and pleasing.

Looking good! You wear the side zip type sweater really well. I'd like to give one of those a go myself. I like it equally well nerdy or jet setter. Flares with pointy toes always look jet setter to me.

The last outfit is my favorite, I think that color palette is very becoming to your complexion and hair. And you make wearing white jeans look like anyone can pull it off.

I frequently overlook those kinds of soft neutrals as in the last outfit. But whenever I see that palette on other blondes like yourself or Angie I think, I should give it another go as we all have fairly similar coloring.

I love that F21 sweatshirt on you! Terrific outfits, and a great story. Yes, out of the mouths of babes... hahaha. (Same with the special ed young adults I'm working with at the moment. No social filter = Revealing truth, sometimes.) You certainly are a fab & athletic rectangle with a great knack for dressing in addition to your robust sense of humor.

The zip sweater is great for you and I especially like it with the jeans and boots. I was admiring the boots in the pic. Red and boots - how can that be wrong??

I was thinking words like soft and muted for the last shirt but Suz pulled out the perfect description with harmonious. I find the colors in that top to be soothing and by adding the white jeans, you upped the contrast level and gave it a bit of punch it wouldn't have had. Really nice Karie.

Thimblelina, that F21 sweatshirt is going into its second season and has proven to be a real workhorse. I love that it works in outfits for work and play.

CocoLion, I also usually overlook the soft neutral colors. The top is new and I almost didn't buy it, but it was so darn comfortable when I put it on that I had to make it mine And although J.Crew calls these jeans white, the color is actually a nice off-white or a winter white. I've been wearing them year-round ever since Angie declared it OK to do so!

Thank you for the honest feedback on the top, Neel. I've worn it several times since I bought it, but it's lightweight so it probably won't get worn much from now until spring. Time will tell if I'll pull it out or push it aside come next year.

Suz, I think F21 is a great place for trends you want to try out but don't want to spend a lot of money on. Our F21 is huge and well stocked. I always feel out of place shopping there, and when I see other women my age I secretly hope they're shopping for themselves and not their children!

Thanks, Firecracker! I have worn that top with both my blue and my black jeans - gray is a color I don't have in jeans but I have been thinking of adding a pair.

That is too funny about your student. Kids make funny, odd observations sometimes. Many years ago when I worked in a school, one of the little boys ran up to me and said, "Miss L! There's a lady in Star Trek who looks just like you!" I was really confused (and a little worried), and then figured out it was Kirstie Alley as Savik. Darn if he wasn't right! That's pretty much what I looked like back then.

Count on a kid to call it like they see it! Your pencil skirt outfit is far from nerdy, I'm sorry to tell you. I've learned that oversized top with pencil skirt here on YLF and love wearing it and seeing on others, and your F21 sweatshirt looks particularly fab on you.

Your red loafers are awesomely cohesive with your jeans outfit; I have burgundy loafers and struggle with how to wear them so they don't look "cutesie."

Windchime, I probably should have called that outfit "preppy" instead of "nerdy." I spent many years denying the preppy gene in my style gene pool, but lately have been embracing it. Loafers and plaid just make my heart sing

You look great ! My children would especially think so ( they love Spongebob ). I really like that sweatshirt. I think that the sweatshirts this season are brilliant. Much warmer and heavier than a t shirt, yet lightweight enough not to be bulky and overbearing. Hope you are well !

Hehe! Love the SB story :D, but I'm loving the plaid sweater even more Both stylings with skirt and then bootcuts are great. The plaid shirt with the pale colourway is lovely too. You wear both deep and light colours equally well. YLF!

Una, you're too funny! And yes, I do think F21 has improved a lot in the past couple of years. It's a great place for casual, trendy items, and mine has lots of dressing rooms so there's never a wait.

Diane, I have a hard time deciding if deep or light colors look best on me. Maybe my skin is kind of in the mid-tone range so I can go a little in either direction, IDK.
