My Best of 2016 - YouLookFab Forum

I'm finally getting a chance to sit down and look over my WIW photos from the past year. I wasn't super-consistent about taking photos, and whole swaths of the year are missing, but I was surprised to find quite a few outfits I liked a lot.

Working backwards from December...

Photo 1 - My holiday party dress. I went with a LBD I've had for years, and I felt perfectly appropriate.

Photo 2 - I think this is from October. I loved the ease of this outfit, and how the hat and statement boots could make such a difference turning jeans and a sweater into something more special.

Photo 3 - I felt great in this dress every time I wore it.

Photos 4 and 5 - Two outfits from my Seattle capsule. I enjoyed working with an extremely limited color palette (even moreso than usual) and appreciated the gift of a consistent climate much more than when I lived in the Pac NW.

Photo 6 - My first maxi dress was the biggest winner in my summer wardrobe.

Photos 7 and 8 - My mom's passing led to a contemplative time for me this spring, when I pared back the accessories and put together more simple ensembles.

Photo 9 - This burgundy faux leather jacket inspired me to upgrade to a real leather version, but I've yet to let it go. Also, man, I really like my hair in that second picture.

These are all fabulous outfits. You look absolutely stunning in your holiday LBD and pretty necklace. But I also love everything about your everyday relaxed, casual style. Your signature pieces (like the fab hat) really make the outfits interesting and memorable. Yet I am also very drawn to the simplicity of ensemble #7 -- the floral blouse is so lovely and unique that no accessories, bells or whistles are needed.

Jenn you look fab in all your outfits but my favourite is the last one. The faux burgundy leather jacket with the great hair! It is so you. Great jacket, hair, jeans and bag. It all seems to come together.

Jenn, I love all the outfits here. My favorite, though, is the black maxi. I have a black maxi that I never wear, but that photo makes me long for warm weather so I can try it again. Like Suz said, your style has a great authenticity that I really admire. I've seen or even put together outfits of my own that made me think of your style. Can't wait to see how 2017 shapes up for you!

These are all great choices - they represent your style really well and (as follows) look fantastic on you. I honestly can't pick favorites because they all suit a certain occasion and/or mood to a tee. If you wore them on endless loop you would always look fab, albeit possibly feel bored.

Jenn, I have to agree with each and every one of your favorites. As I was flipping through them I thought "Oh! She looks so good this is my favorite!" -and then I saw the next picture and the same thing happened! You have an awesome smile, a wonderful attitude, and it's fun to read your posts! For anyone who takes WIW pictures and hasn't gone back to choose favorites yet, I highly recommend it. I hemmed and hawed a bit about this, but it's definitely a worthwhile exercise. Some things I learned by choosing these and reading your comments:

1. My favorite pieces show up over and over again. I'm wearing the same jeans in #2 and #7, the same sweater in #2 and #5, the same poncho in #4 and #5, the same sweater in #3 and #7, the same boots in #2, #4, #5, and #9.

2. ...but remixing isn't required. I wore the dress in #6 about 15 times this summer, pretty much just like that.

3. I'm wearing lipstick with 6/9 favorite outfits. That's probably most of the days I wore lipstick this year. I should do it more!

4. It will be worth the effort it takes to search for natural fiber prints. As lovely as the blouse in #7 is, I rarely wear it because it's polyester. I'd just about given up looking for beautiful florals in natural fibers, but I should keep up the hunt.

I also learn about my own preferences by doing this each year and it is really instructive. Thanks for that reminder.

You look great and I really do see your style being honed since you joined YLF (I think we joined at roughly the same time). It might be the careful accessorizing that's "levelling you up" .

smittie-- Thanks, I definitely feel like my style has been honed since joining YLF. I also make fewer shopping mistakes, although there have been a few.

That green bag was my mom's. I really love that it has a plaid flannel lining. It's a few years old, but the Find below is a similar one in their current line (it also comes in the olive).

The retrospective is an interesting exercise. When I looked through mine I struggled to find any warm weather outfits that I really loved. But you have all the seasons covered. Must work on that!
These are all great outfits. I love seeing "our" EF poncho in action. And please do not purge the burgundy jacket!!! It's sensational on you.

My favourite look is #3, because the dress looks so good on you. Black dresses suit you as well, but I think a dress with a little bit of colour and pattern looks even more interesting. I also like the blouse in #7 and the burgundy jacket in #9. All in all I give an upvote for dresses.
