My best fashion "discovery" of 2012...

is the semi-tuck!
Seriously, it's perfect. It allows me to wear all sorts of previously off-limit tops with my slouchier bottoms, lets me show off my cool belts, hides my short waistedness, and gives a tucked look while still hiding my muffin top from the world.

What's your best discovery this year?

I agree that the semi tuck has been quite a revelation to me. I think my best discovery is that I can wear trousers just as well as I can wear skirts/dresses. And right now Angie is sitting somewhere saying "I told you so" - lol!

Skinnies tucked into booties instead of taller boots. I see more of my leg and since I'm short, more exposed leg makes me (hopefully) look taller.

I was a naysayer at first but I saw the light and I'm with Diana on this one - the semi-tuck or "fake" tuck has been a discovery I've used this year a LOT and it works really well with my jeans/slouchy tees and wide belts.

Seriously, though, I love a good semi-tuck (or faux semi-tuck) myself. Also loving trousers.

And maybe my biggest discovery is that it is okay to spend a bit of money on something that is going to move me in the right direction.

I'm with you on team semi tuck! I also found tucking and belting with skirts makes all the too long tops not too long anymore

...is discovering that I, too, can be fashionable and feel fabulous. I'm late to the tucking-jeans-into-skinnies party, but that. combined with the longer tunic top has been another great find of 2012.

After looking at some of my outfit photos, during the past year, I've decided the least successful usually involve tucking of tops into pants when the tops and pants are high contrast (short upper torso + long legs). If I want to tuck, I should stick to low contract items.

hahaha...I meant low contrast, not low contract (work intrudes)

Asymmetrical hems on tops and Nordstrom Rack which opened here about a year ago.
I still need to figure out the semi tuck.

PPL - which means a bit longer hemline on my pants lengthens my short legs and makes me feel much more balanced. Also belts, skirts, and I can't wait for the next adventures. Thank you, YLF and Angie!

I full-tuck and faux-semi-tuck. I don't semi-tuck authentically because it feels so desperately wrong for my style. But I love the way the gals on this forum semi-tuck. It looks so right!

I haven't even tried the semi-tuck, maybe when I lose some more weight. Mine has to be leggings and tunic tops, never thought I would wear this combo again since "been there, done that" 20 years ago. But one thing I've learnt from YLF is never say never!
