I have been on a bit shopping spree for the last two months and although I'm very pleased with what I've purchased (still four things on the way), I've spent a bit more than I had intended. Therefore I'm on a strict SYC for a bit to allow the credit card to cool off and for me to evaluate my spring wardrobe.

We are still very much in winter mode here - got a lot more snow over the past couple of days so still wearing winter wardrobe items. Once things become more spring-like, I may be posting some keep/toss items that I've had for a while.

Just posting this as a way of keeping myself accountable!

Shannon, I think your spending has been a great investment in you. Your new outfits and style are fabulous.

Living in the same city, I totally understand about winter still being the focus while the majority have moved to spring. I am finding my weight gain has resulted in my spending less on wardrobe than my usual. My plan was to buy only what I need to get through until I successfully lost the weight I had gained so I have spent about $500 on clothes in the last month or so.

I should start planning for spring too.

That's how I see it too Dianthus - and I am finding the choices I'm making now to be much more deliberate and chosen to work with my wardrobe.

So since we live in the same city, when are we going shopping together???

Hi Mrs. Spendipants, nice to meet you. You have some fab, fab fab new items that you wouldn't have otherwise met, so I'm glad you got them. Good luck on your SYC.

OTH, I have been buying (but not wearing yet) for spring and I think I've made some mistakes! A few things can be returned but not many. I should have waited until it was "wearing time" but with thrifting you have to "get it while the gettin's good". Ooops I'm highjacking. Sorry!

But that's it exactly Claire - I've bought items lately for spring too but in Winnipeg, that can be a couple of months away yet so hopefully I haven't made any mistakes.

Good luck with SYC! You've bought some great things and your outfits are always lovely, so I think it shouldn't be a problem to continue looking fab for your SYC.

I am a bit south of you but in the snow belt nevertheless, and I have definitely shifted to the "spring buying mood". It is hard to resist fresh, bright colors, even though it is snowing outside right now. I wish you luck with SYC! Your wardrobe looks great so hopefully this will not be too hard.

I actually have a portion of my CPW worksheet that I titled "SYC" - so far all it has are the new purchases that I made while I was contemplating SYC... I will say that keeping a list of what I am wearing and also watching my CPW seems to help with resisting some temptations - I can better see whether something fills a hole in my wardrobe or is just adding "more of the same".

I know how easy it is to get caught up. All of a sudden a want becomes a NEEED to buuy it now!! I find my biggest mistakes are sale and thrift store items so I'm trying to focus on buying less but smarter. Complete SYC hasn't worked. SYB (shop your budget) is more realistic for me.

Hmm, I've been struggling with SYC myself as I stare down the summer closet, so I hear you, Shannon! (And that's me trying to make myself accountable too, right there!)

I did break stride and get the bags, and a couple of other mad buys yesterday when out deliberately window shopping with NO intent to buy --- and brought home a few deals and basics. Better than blowing five times that on pretty tops (I was oh so tempted), in terms of the budget certainly; but I can't decide if it was WISE to (a) let the tops go and (b) buy even the 'deals'...

SYC is a challenge, and no mistake! But it does force me to re-investigate my existing lot, which is a HUGE plus. You're already a master remixer, though, Shannon --- do you fear you might get bored with no new toys?

Kidding aside, I do believe that it is always a good idea to step back, take a breath and assess just how much you have, how far you can stretch it, and how well it is working. You may find some holes in your wardrobe...or not. Who knows.

BTW, I am also on SYC. And being tempted every single day. I went completely off track. I needed clothes because of my weight gain, and though my feet were not affected, I somehow bought 2 pairs of boots and 2 pairs of shoes. ( expensive ones at that )

You are a brave woman! I don't think I can ever go on SYC but I am on a very fixed budget right now, and only attacking wardrobe holes for the more spendier purchases. I have a huge hole on solid tops and blouses, along with casual shoes. That's what I'm attacking at the moment.

I have bought a couple things I don't really need, but they were deeply discounted.

Good luck on SYC Shannon! You have a fabulous wardrobe and lots to play with so that should make it easier. I think I am Sister Spendipants too. I have tried so many times to be on SYC and am an utter failure at it. I have slowed way down though so I guess that is a minor success. I'm telling myself SYB is OK too. And I am putting my energy into posting WIWs and remixing so that helps.

Your wardrobe is working really well, Spendipants! Sounds like a good time to take a breather and enjoy it for a while. When spring comes, sounds like you'll have a new shopping partner and be ready to make the best choices for spring/summer fabness!

All the things I have seen you post look lovely and I'm sure are going to add a lot to your wardrobe. You have a real sense of your style and a great eye when you purchase. I'm trying to do syc and syb with a goal of ONLY buying thing that add some color and pattern to my wardrobe since it has been predominantly neutrals. We are having a lovely 56 degree day here in Boise and it feels like Spring! Of course that makes me want to buy "Springy" things....must resist!!! Good luck taking a breather! Sorry for hi-jacking!

Keeping yourself accountable helps to keep me that way, too, Shannon. My card has to cool down, as well, and it's hard not to grab something, when, as Rita said, what we want becomes what we need. You've done well. Stay strong and know that I empathize. I'll look forward to your Keep/Toss review.

I am also attempting a SYC, but I fear it has become a SYB! At least I am carefully considering each purchase and have taken back 4 that tempted me but weren't quite right. It has been more of a challenge that I would have imagined and I am sending you willpower and support online!

You have doing a great job getting some fab items for your wardrobe! It's tempting to want to get everything for Spring right away, although I know what you mean, that Spring can still be quite awhile away up here in Canada! Good luck with your SYC!

I'm convinced the only way to avoid temptation is to stay away from here.

Shannon - as others have said you've come a long way in building a fab wardrobe. Take a breather and just fill some shopping carts without ordering all the way (this is my therapy) when you are out of SYC see if you still like the items, they are still available (and most likely they will be on sale) What I've learned is there is always a great item out there waiting for me. If I miss a few I will survive.

Jjsloane - you've actually hit two very relevant points here. There IS always another great item out there and I don't need to jump at something right away.

Secondly, you are partly right in that seeing wonderful items on this site by such gorgeous lasses makes a girl wanna shop shop shop...

Please note that I DO NOT regret any of the purchases I've made lately. I'm pleased with everything and have started to build a wardrobe I'm really happy with and that contains some higher quality pieces. Just gonna take a breather that's all!

So does SYC mean no thrifting as well? I've decided I should return that Jolt red jeans jacket to Nordstrom's but Ack!!! I can't find the receipt. Love the color but I think the fit is not a 10. Not too expensive, so not an utter disaster when I'm sure the receipt will show up the day after I remove the tags. Also, I;m thinking I should return the Vince Camuto top you have. If I'm even asking about the shoulder fit it means I know it is too small. Gotta find the receipt on that, too.

Donna - sorry to hear the Vince Camuto top didn't work for you. I agree it's kind of an odd fit - but it works ok for me. Hope you find the receipt!

Right now, I think SYC means no thrifting as well. I really need to take some time to take stock of my spring wardrobe as it stands before I purchase anything more. That way I'll avoid making too many purchasing errors.

First, off, I think your thread title is hilarious. Mrs. Spendipants is such a great nickname, though I don't think it really applies since everything you bought has been a necessary purchase.

Secondly, I think this is a great time of year to slow down and SYB/SYC for a month or two. I'm in a similar boat where I did a lot of shopping in November/December/January, and now have enough clothes to get dressed easily.

Once we're into spring, it will be easy to tell what our warm weather wardrobe holes are and shop accordingly for them. Meanwhile, most of us are well stocked for our cold weather wardrobes and now we get to have fun and experiment with them.
