i dont know if ithis has been asked before but I'm new. I love watching movies for clothes /style ideas. Also I like looking at pictures of celebrities who seem to have strong styles(maybe I shouldn't just stick to celebrities) for ideas. I enjoy clothes more for their statement element that fashion (as one colleague once said to me about herself "I don't really wear clothes...I wear costumes"
Which films do you like for the clothes ideas? Which celebrities do you enjoy following for their sense of style and which celebrity embraces your style? I have asked the question so now I have to go and think about my answer.

I dont watch many movies, so I cant really think of any, but on TV I love the fashion style of his ex-wife on ABC's Gary Unmarried....

A lot of the old movies... like Grace Kelly in Rear Window or High Society. I ogle the clothes but certainly don't try to emulate the style since we have such different bodies/ lifestyles, etc.

I always love seeing what Gwyneth Paltrow is wearing. Again, her style is very different from my own but I think she usually looks fabulous and seems to be an early adopter of many trends, eg. she was the first person I ever saw wear the sharp-shoulder blazer silhouette.

I like that lawyer lady in Sex and the city ...really like her clothers. Also Diane Keaton in some movies...I think she plays the understated women that you take seriously really well...quite quirky too.

Anybody watch "Lie to Me?" I LOVE the leading lady, Kelli Williams. She always looks so classic and put together, but fresh (a la the orange trench in the second photo). Here are some photos:

Absolutely! But like Mac I seem to fall for the look of people whose style/bodytype is very different from mine: I love Meg Ryans style in You've got Mail, and am always seeing piccies of Elle McPherson looking fab and breezy...but these girls are tall and slim and I am 5'4" and curvy! And Carla Bruni - her trenches with flats are gorgeous on her!

I love watching The Ghost Whisperer to see what Jennifer Love Hewitt's wearing. She has this chick bohemian style and her figure is killer. I aspire to it.

Ironically I love to see what Nicole Ritchie and Gwen Paltrow are wearing. I say ironically because I could never ever have their body type but I love what they're wearing at all times.

My favorite movie for fashion is the remake of The Thomas Crowne Affair, the one with Rene Russo. Her wardrobe is amazing in that movie.

I like Tina Fey's wardrobe on 30 rock. Professional, but not stuffy, and great layering.

I loved Marie Antoinette for that one (while historically ummm, interesting) as well as Riverdance, Feet of Flames, etc. Irish Dance shows might seem like a really weird place to get inspiration from, but their costumes are stunning.

I constantly see TV or movie characters wearing clothes I fall in love with, but you have to remember that a TV character who's supposed to be, say, a struggling secretary, will often be wearing a $150 blouse. It's just not realistic. Plus, the wardrobe department will then tailor those pieces specifically to the actor's body, so the fit is always amazing. That can be frustrating when you have a normal real person's budget - but it's also a good reminder that quality and fit can make a huge difference.

I am currently watching Gilmore Girls again whenever my husband has to work late. It's my guilty pleasure and my all-time favourite tv-series so my husband gave me the dvds as a present. I love Lorelai's style, because it's relaxed and quirky, but she also has a great work wardrobe. The series actually prompted me to buy a red cross-body laptop-bag way back when the first season was aired here.

PS: I have to watch The Thomas Crown Affair someday soon. I have heard so many people say that Rene Russo's style is gorgeous in that movie.

I love the way they assessorize the grandma on Parenthood, and also Dr. Brennan on Bones.

Tarzy I know exactly what you mean. I was just watching Devil Wears Prada and was trying to figure out how Anne Hathaway's character could afford Louboutin heels and Prada garments. The outfits were beautiful and I loved seeing them but it's unrealistic to think that this secretary had full access to the magazine's closet every day.

I think I read an interview with Tina Fey where she specifically wanted Liz Lemon's wardrobe on 30 Rock to be realistic, like for her character's salary. I've seen her wear Gap and Old Navy things on the show pretty consistently. Love Tina on and off the show.

Judy - I love Tina Fey, too! I always notice what Liz Lemon wears. That show is one of the funniest shows on TV. "I want to go to there." And of course, Alex Baldwin - "What am I, a farmer?" Just brilliant.

Tarzy, wasn't the season finale last year with Jon Hamm and Matt Damon great? It's nice to see her success. When she did the Vogue cover she had such a great sense of humor about it all, of course.

My all-time favorite show for style was Pushing Daisies. I would have purchased and worn every outfit that Charlotte Charles (Anna Friel) would wear. I also thought Olive Snook's (Kristin Chenowyth) clothes were really cute, but tended to be too short/lowcut for me. The show was full of bright colors. Fantastic.

I only watched the film once but the fashion from The talented Mr Ripley has stayed with me since, it's just sublime.
