I thought there was a post on this but couldn't find it. I am looking for some recommendations for things to watch. Here are a few for you all (will pick some more obscure ones)

Movies
- "What they do in the shadows" - Taika Waititi, mockumentary about vampires. Or you could watch "Hunt for the Wilderpeople". Both NZ films.
- "Ladies in Black" - 2018 Australian film about women working in a department store. Very gentle. I loved it.
- " Parasite" - hardly low profile since it won an Oscar (or two) but a bit off kilter. Original and highly recommended.

Television Shows
"Parks and Recreation" - an oldie that I missed. Gentle humour. Just what I feel like at the moment.
" The Capture" - exciting British thriller in the age of CCTV
" The Little Drummer Girl" - Le Carre thriller, I loved it!!!!!

Am thinking of sharing some classics with my sons - Casablanca and Lawrence of Arabia.

Parks and Recreation is one of my all time favorite shows!
I have started watching Orange is the New Black. The theme resonates.
My kids have just finished Harry Potter marathon (not the first time).

"The Office" we thought was even better. American version. We have watched that from start to finish - I think it’s 7 seasons - THREE TIMES!

BBC dramas...The Night Manager, a John le Carre; Killing Eve (fab style) ; Call of Duty; Luther

Not BBC but Inspector Montalbano, sub titled Italian crime drama; the Narnia films....

Cinema Paradiso, Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

We started “The Blacklist” on Netflix maybe 2 months ago on a friend’s recommendation- set in the US, about FBI agents. Quite old like first season 2013 or so but we’re now up to 4th season and really hooked, so many twists and turns!
Don’t forget “Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries”, wonderful Aussie series set in Melbourne 1928, the fashion is to die for. A movie is coming out soon. Essie Davis or Davies is the star. She later had a small part in Game of Thrones.

Oh and I second Jane about “The Night Manager”. Elizabeth Debicki ( sp?) is wonderful as one of the female interests in it, stunning clothes too.

I've been working crazy hours, so not much tv for me, but we've loved and The Goldbergs (love it because it has loads of references from 80's pop culture), and The Mandalorian. Old episodes of Anthony Bourdin's No Reservations are also pretty great.

There is a new series on Netflix called Unorthodox , based on the book of the same title . The book was simply fantastic, and I'm excited to start watching this today, hopefully. Little Fires Everywhere has just released on Hulu (which I don't have but tech-savvy husband is charged with finding me a good copy somewhere ) (based on the Celeste Ng book of the same name - which was also fantastic ) . We also watched the 2017 film David Crosby: Remember My Name (released at Sundance that year ) which was terrific if you are a CSNY/Byrds/CSN fan (you might be a bit too young for that ?) .

I'm not into comedy series - other than Curb Your Enthusiasm, which I can only take in small doses but which is HILARIOUS.

LOVED Little Drummer Girl (I've read most of Le Carre's novels) and am hustling off after I finish typing to ask husband to find The Capture for us to watch. Thanks for that tip!!

My Dad loves Masterchef etc even though he is not very adventurous cooking or eating wise. He is 80. Even old episodes might work.

Found out from a friend on Facebook that Disney+ has National Geographic, so I’ll sign up for that.
And I can finally see Baby Yoda (yes I know that’s not the show name)

Would your dad like ‘Foyle’s War’ or the old, old, PBS series ‘Sharpe’?

I wish someone would do a reboot of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’.

Unorthodox is riveting.
Gentefied - It is a little over the top but a good sleep- inducer.

I have just finished Unorthodox on Netflix, the first series I have ever watched (!), and it was just incredible, I definitely recommend that.

I binged watched Shrill early on in the epidemic and enjoyed it - about a young woman who happens to be plus size learning to love herself as she is and stop accepting anything less than that from the world. It's Hulu show, available on Crave + in Canada.
Scott & Bailey - British detective show on Netflix, about two 40+ female detectives. Strong characters, relationship dynamics, and actors who look their age.
Bodyguard - British police drama miniseries on Netflix that's a bit sexy too. Not the most sophisticated plot but low commitment (6 episodes), and did I mention sexy?
SMILF - this one about a single mother is a bit outside the box. I loved it, especially Rosie O'Donnell playing her mother. Showtime/Crave.

lisap, just started Unorthodox last night - it is outstanding. (Lead actress plays a key role in Shtisel, a wonderful Israeli series I've recommended before).

My son has us re-watching Psych. It is such a cute, well-written, perfectly cast show. I'm delighted all over again.

Annagybe, your father might really enjoy the old mini-series Centennial. Covers the history of USA in progressive episodes with really good characters, interesting storylines and top notch actors. Not at all dried, forced lessons type show. My mom and I both loved it.. Another couple great mini series are Rich Man, Poor Man and Holocaust, both from the 80's also. Highly recommend all 3 for everyone because of the great actors and writing

I watched one episode of The Capture, and 3 of Unorthodox last night. Unorthodox was SO good, I just couldn't stop. I LOVE books/movies/shows like this and lap the information and culture right up. I'm just disappointed it's only a 4-part series! Husband and I intend to watch another episode of The Capture tonight - that one was harder to get into (I had a hard time understanding the dialect at the expense of jacking up the volume like an old person - lol) but we decided it got a 2-thumbs up and that we would keep going .

On that note I do recommend the audiobook version of "Confessions of a Shopaholic." Several years old I know, but way better than the movie version.

I'm watching Korean show on Netflix - Cheese in the trap ( love, manipulations, coming to terms with one selves.. ) .
Before that - My Holo love - a bit silly however fun Korean show with current fashion and pretty cast.

We watched episode one of Unorthodox last night - we did really like it. Slow paced, gripping and a real insight into another life. Thanks for the recommendations.

US and UK Office (both excellent in different ways - the UK version is a bit crueller)

We started Tin Star but I won't be pursuing that one, I just didn't warm to the series at all.

We just finished Hunters on Amazon Prime. It was great in a super hero way. Also, it’s set in 1977 and I loved seeing the fashions.

I am really heartbroken that I am unable to work any performances at Pacific Northwest Ballet and Seattle Opera until the fall. In the meantime, I have been watching movies like The Red Shoes, White Kinghts, The Tales of Hoffman, An American in Paris, Singin' in the Rain, and M Butterfly. Any film with great dancing and music I can sing along to is a winner with me.
