What are you doing for Mother’s Day?

My son has agreed to buy me a battery case for my new phone—not much intrigue there, but it is something I truly need that he will be good at shopping for. We’ve agreed to put off an excursion for two weeks, until his exams are over. By then I hope it will be warm enough and the Covid situation will be such that we can go to one of these pools https://www.tip-berlin.de/ausf.....heimtipps/ (on an iphone, you can translate articles by tapping the “AA” next to the url and selecting the translation option you want. Idk about other phones, but assume there is a similar option).

For my mother—yikes! I haven’t figured out a thing. We might order her headphones and a couple books to listen to during my dad’s PT appointments and relaxation/meditation apps for other times. But she’s been reading in the waiting room, says she’s comfy doing that, so I’m not sure that’s the best gift.

Do you have plans? What mothers in your life do you celebrate? I have heard of people who do things for mothers of their grandchildren, and some people recognize aunties and such.

Since my whole famoly is now fully vaxed and through the waiting period, we are sitting down to a meal together for the first time in a year. They haven't seen my fiancee since we dated six years ago, so that will be nice. Its also my Mother's birthday, so much love and celebration of her. My kids don't do much for me, but we're having an event at work to celebrate the clients who have kids (most do). We'll have to figure out something for Patrick's mom, too.

Thanks for the translation tip. The pools look wonderful; keep us informed which one you select The boys are working this weekend so I planned a dinner and dessert gathering the following week. I like to wear jewelry pieces of both of my grandmothers on Mother’s Day to remember them.

Nikki, that’s a great idea; I have the brooch we had made for my grandmother, one (birth)stone for each grandchild. I never know when to wear it, but I do now! Thank you. I’m amused and pleased to hear I’m not the only mom arranging her own celebration. Enjoy the dinner & dessert!

CS, I hadn’t heard about the gap in your relationship. Definitely a good thing to get them all together before the wedding. I hope you all enjoy each other, and that whatever you do with his family goes well too.

Mother’s Day has been and gone here in the UK.It’s in March,but lope you all have a lovely time especially those who are getting to see their mums after such a long time.

I am looking for something that won’t add to clutter and can be delivered at a good time... I was looking at gift baskets, but don’t want them to come to early... otherwise it won’t be a Mother’s DAY gift... lol!

I’ll be going out to dd’s to work on a sewing project myself.

Just making plans today! My 89 year old mom now lives with me. My eldest daughter and my son are currently in the same province and planning to come for the weekend. My son is an experienced chef and we have all decided we want lobster (local grocery stores usually have it on special for Mother's Day). If we are lucky, there will be fiddleheads available by then too.
My part will be buying flowers.

Just my mom is still with us this year, as DHs passed last month, and we've not been blessed with a child yet. I text with my mom nearly every day, and we go see her once a month. I'm hoping to get her an apt near us before next Mother's Day!

I’ll call my mother on Mother’s Day. She’s nearly 97 and I haven’t seen her since Christmas 2019.

I expect that we will Facetime with our son. He and his partner live in the Midwest.

Celebrating my MIL on the day. Unfortunately, we still can't get in her nursing home for a visit, or see her through a window (the building doesn't have patient rooms or lounge on the ground floor.)

My DH is sending her a fancy floral Mother's Day See's candies box, and some elaborate cards (she especially likes fancy cards).

And we'll talk on the phone of course. She doesn't like video calls though.

My mother passed away 4 years ago. Mother’s Day is a day I think about her and get lots of love from DH, my son and dog Margot. My Mum was so much fun, so I have lots of happy memories of her, it is not a sad day, even though I miss her. Mum loved champagne, so I will have a glass of champagne as a special treat and think of her.

My boys usually pop out first thing in the morning and buy me fresh flowers chosen by my son. With covid restrictions, we will probably play it safe and stay home this year. Usually we would go out for a very casual lunch. DH is a great cook, so I am sure that he will cook me up some yummy food, something healthy and delicious. I may bake some cookies as an indulgent treat, my favourite is Anzac biscuits, which is Australian and NZ for an oatmeal biscuit.

I am a bit stressed about this mother's day to be honest. Our Sundays are very busy and this weekend I am at a conference Friday night and all Saturday.

My mum is coming for afternoon tea for which will try to make scones. DH is planning to see his on Friday.

We don't tend to do big presents so I may just buy mum some chocolate ginger.

Much harder is me trying to sus out and plan if my kids are planning anything and how that will fit in. Often they make breakfast in bed, but DD17 starts work at 8am and needs our lift there, so really not sure how it's all going to work!

I have not had a mother for 22 years now since she died in 1999. DH’s mother is 84 and we may need to visit her and her 90 year old DH. She “doesn’t like” Mother’s Day cards/prezzies she claims-“overly commercial”- so I don’t do those. I have no idea what if anything my 3 kids will do for me. I will be happy with a special hug. More would be nice but oh well. The US-based daughter cannot give a hug.

My mother is 85 and lives about 45 minutes away. I'm going to drive down and prepare her brunch....I brought some salmon, cream cheese and will make eggs and coffee. I ordered some pants for her online but she already has them. I'm not sure what my son will do. He asked me if I wanted anything. I said it would be nice if you cleaned your room and took your rubbish off the couch

We celebrated today. I got to set the agenda for the day, so I chose a walk around an urban park with several art installations and a view of the skyline, followed by exploring Chinatown, and then our first restaurant dinner in over a year (we’re all fully vaccinated as of this weekend, but chose to sit outside). It was a lovely and near-normal day.

Tomorrow, we’ll call my husband’s mom (mine passed away in 2016), smoke some salmon, and watch the Sounders on tv. Wonderful weekend!

No plans for today . My Mother passed away 5 years ago I find it sad not being able to send her gifts or a card anymore.
My kids won't be home, my daughter has her LCSW exam in two weeks and lives 2.5 hours away and my son moved on Friday so is trying to get settled he's also 2.5 hours away. I saw him on Friday as I helped him move. Oldest son lives 15 mins away he may stop in. I knew this year would be tricky for them to come today so I invited them to come for Memorial Day to our new vacation home in The Thousand Islands .I'm excited to see them altogether at that time.

My kids Did end up making me breakfast in bed. DD wasn't starting work until 9am which helped but I was still impressed by them managing it.

Remembering my own Mom, worrying about my MIL who lives alone (but got visits from her sons), and feeling gratitude that my two teens (well one almost-teen) were willing to come for a walk with me today Hope everyone had a lovely one! xx
