more tube skirt possibilities (and sizing questions)

So I'm pretty sure I'm going to return the lace print VC tube skirt I posted last night. As you all helped me realize, it's too long and/or not tapered enough. However, I kind of don't want to give up on the idea of a long, slinky skirt. I think I'm going to try a couple of other brands:

I think I may also re-try the VC in a petite. However, I'm wondering if I made a sizing mistake on the first one. Most reviews and the item info itself say to size down, but I, being afraid of body-con, sized up. The waist on the upsized one was too big, as I assumed it would be, but that's not an issue since I won't be tucking. The rest was comfy, but I wonder if that's why it wasn't as slinky or tapered at the bottom as I wanted. So for those of you who own this skirt, did you size up or down, or stick to your normal size? I probably wouldn't go all the way to a Small, but maybe my regular Medium would be better. If I reorder, I'm going to get a solid color so I don't have to worry about pattern distortion.

Also, if anyone has tried the Leith or Topshop, how is the sizing on those?
Thanks in advance! I hope I am not beating a dead horse here... maybe the tube skirt trend is just not for me... feel free to tell me if you think that I should just give it up too.

I think it depends on how comfortable you are with the body con. I sized up in the vc striped skirt because of that. It wasn't avl here in petite but that is definately what I would need to save the tapering. I think you would look great in the stripe version in petite. It might be worth a try.

I bought a graphic print Topshop tube skirt and love it, it was the one and only left at size 2 (it is very body con). I would suggest sizing up on Topshop.

I decided to go ahead and try the VC skirt in a solid- I ordered the PXS which stated = size 2. (I don't know the difference in reg. verses petite because the length is stated as the same) The black was OK not great and the red showed EVERY bump and line. I sent them back. I'm thinking I should have tried the XS reg. or the petite S. I wasn't crazy about the unfinished hem though.

I tried the Topshop black in size 2, very tight and flaired out below the knee a bit. It was also EXTREMLY shiny, too shiny to try a different size.

Now I am waiting for the Leith in black I finally got the hint and ordered a size up (size S), I think it might be too long as I am only 5'2". I am also waiting for one from amazon that was inexpensive and comes in several colors. http://www.amazon.com/gp/produ.....#038;psc=1

Glory, interesting thought about the petite being more tapered or tapered higher. You're right, that might be what I need.

Tracina, thanks for the fit info! Super helpful. I've decided not to order the Topshop since I don't really want yet another black skirt, and I don't like the other colors. The Amazon skirt looks interesting! I'll be curious to see how it compares.

I am 5'4". I ordered regular XS in the VC skirts. The waists are a bit large but not ridiculously so. XS would be my regular size in most clothes by American makers. (I usually wear a regular 0-2 or a petite 0-4, depending on the item and the maker.)

Last years' version in that size was LONG on me -- almost to the bottom of my calves. So I had it shortened. I took it to the seamstress thinking she would have to take it up at the waist to save the taper. But she disagreed, and instead of doing that, put a hem in. I'd have preferred the raw edge, to tell the truth, because I think the hem makes them a teeny bit more difficult to walk in (the fabric stretches differently). However, it's not too bad. And the taper remains in the skirt despite her taking it up from the bottom.

This year's version was much shorter on me and seems to be an okay length as is, though I might shorten it.

Are they body con? I guess....although I don't really feel that way. Maybe I have a high tolerance for body con? I'm not sure, since I don't really tend to wear anything that way except for my workout gear and leggings tucked into boots in winter. All I can say is that for whatever reason, with an untucked top of any length I don't feel self-conscious. I might feel indeed self-conscious with a tucked top, because the fabric is soft enough to show the bumps of the tucked top's fabric. Or I might feel self-conscious if the skirt were short. But as it is, I don't.

I am generally between small and medium in skirts and I decided to keep the medium in VC tube skirt. Felt more comfortable to me.

Like Suz, I don't consider it to be particularly body-con, especially since I wear it with untucked tops. I wear it to work every week and feel fine.

Hmm, are you ladies sizing for waist or hips? I wonder if that's the difference, because everyone else's seems to taper much more than mine. The large I ordered is fitting my hips but too big elsewhere, I think. It could definitely stretch a lot more over the hips if I wanted. The bigger waist doesn't bother me because, as I said, I'd always hide it, but the bigger bottom opening seems to be an issue. It also doesn't seem to be cut with much of a taper if I lay it flat, which makes me think I need a smaller size and will just have to live with it stretching tighter over the hips.

Diana our figures are almost same. And I tried the same kind of skirt. And I sm struggling with it:)
My in house fashion critic DH hsted it when I wore it at my hips but liked it a little above like just below my belly button. I am short waisted if that helps you guess

VC PS = VC XS regular which is the correlation I find for a lot of stuff at Nordstrom. Thus, if you think a Regular Medium might be your best size, then you might also want to try a Petite Large. I am starting to do that more and more. Sometimes laying one on top of the other looks virtually the same, including the length, but a close study will reveal that one size is better than the other. Diana: I had the same fit issues as you. The large fit better in the waist, but was a little bootylicious. The XL was looser, but less tapered and too big in the waist. And, while I might have been a pear in my 20's, those days are gone. I think it might be worth it, though, to try a petite. I also always try a couple on in the same size if I'm in the store. The way garments are cut now can lead to a significant difference in fit even in the same size.

I've had all of them on. I fit an XS in VC, SP in petite, S in Leith, and 6 in Topshop. Normally a 27 in jeans, size 2 in BR Sloans.

I tried on two sizes and kept the smaller of the two. The 1x seemed too loosey goosey, kind of like your L is fitting (IMHO). The XL fit well. Not too tight and not too loose. Seems to fall right if that makes sense.

I think you should try the smaller size and/or the petite.

Like Suz I don't feel like its super bodycon when you have a longer top like you plan to wear.

Donna, I have found that to be true as well. However, there are some brands that don't seem to cut petites smaller (just shorter) so it's good to hear the firsthand report.

OK, so here's what I decided to do. I am going to order a VC in a petite large; hopefully it will be a bit smaller and more tapered than the regular large. I am also going to order Leith in large (since it runs smaller than VC). The reviews seem to suggest that Leith is really tapered, which might work well. I am not ordering the Topshop because I don't care for the colors; they have cool prints but those don't appear to be lined.

I am ordering both in solid charcoal. I have a feeling that the lace print on the original one I ordered is contributing to the widening look, and I don't want that. Plus I have so many prints in my closet, sometimes I feel like I need some solids to ground them.

Diana, just an FYI, I ordered both a lace print and a striped skirt, and their fabrications are different. The description says that the lace print is a poly blend, while all the other colors/prints are a rayon blend. To me, the rayon blend feels more fluid and silky, while the poly blend is a lot stiffer. I ended up exchanging the lace print skirt for animal print because the stiffer poly did not feel as comfortable and stretchy as the rayon blend.

The skirt in L fits me very comfortably and is not too tight, and I'm usually a 12 or 14 in bottoms, with a 32" waist and 45" hips. I would recommend trying a medium for you too, just to compare the fit.

Oh, interesting, DJ. I wonder if that's why my lace skirt doesn't taper nearly so much as everyone else's skirt seems to. Well, the grey I ordered should be the rayon blend so I'll get to compare. I think I'm going to hang onto the lace one until the others come just for curiosity's sake.

I think PL is the way to go. I tried it on in S, M, and PM. I like the way the PM looked best overall, length and taper. However, I have the opposite problem than you do -- it was too small in the waist! My waist is definitely larger proportionate to my hips. I'm still debating the M. It's comfortable in the waist but doesn't taper as much. Good luck!
