More satchel help needed! - YouLookFab Forum

So now that I've decided on a polished finish for my bag, I'm wondering what size and style to get. I'm stuck between four bags.

Small wide satchel - Just about enough for me to carry papers and a notebook to class. http://www.scaramangashop.co.u....._1013.html

Medium wide satchel - This one is 2 inches bigger and can fit in more stuff. But I'm worried it might overwhelm my frame? I'm 5'4'' tall. http://www.scaramangashop.co.u....._1506.html

Medium retro satchel - I think this style would be easier to wear than the traditional satchel shape? I really like the look of it. http://www.scaramangashop.co.u.....od_16.html

Large retro satchel - This would fit more in than the medium one, but again I'm worried it will be too big for my 5'4'' frame. http://www.scaramangashop.co.u.....od_15.html

I would love all your opinions and suggestions! As I said earlier, I currently use a sporty backpack and it doesn't fit in with my style at all and this would be a major purchase (and investment) for me.

I would say either the small or the medium size, depending on what you carry around with you. I have a satchel around the size of the small one and I think it really does not hold much! If you have a laptop you probably need the medium size. My 13" Macbook Pro does not really fit in the small satchel.

I'm around your height and the medium size would be OK for me, but the large would definitely be too big/unwieldy. Plus when full it would be very heavy!

I much prefer the wide shape rather than the retro aesthetically, plus I find that long bags like the retro bump against my hips and butt and that's really uncomfortable (I'm short waisted though).

Diana: Thanks for helping! I usually just have one or two plastic sleeves with some A4 size papers and s notebook, so I think a small should for those in. But I'm also wondering what I will do if I end up getting a laptop in the future! It may make sense to get the medium!

Just wondering - doesn't the wide shape bump against your hips too? I assumed that was a given for a cross body bag!

When the satchel is full, I tend to wear it slung across my back rather than my side. The wide, short shape is short enough that it sits kinda above the widest part of my butt, if that makes sense. I guess it kind of rests on my butt, hee, so it doesn't bump around so much.

Ha ha ha okay, I get it I'm slightly short waisted too and I've carried cross body bags in the past but I've never had them rest that comfortably against my body! But my issue with regular handbags is that they slide off my narrow shoulders! Hence the search for a satchel!

The retro gets my vote. I'm about your height and I always found the wide satchels would curve around my hip (like folding in half) if they weren't too full. Made walking difficult. But it's been ages since I used them...so take that with a grain of salt. These might be more structured than what I used....

I personally have had difficulty with vertical bags (like the retro design) because of my height and I am 5'7"; I dunno if that helps you with your decision in that matter.

I am biased because i carry a 14" bag with a horizontal display; I can carry my Macbook (old) in it; now that I have a 15" Macbook (or is it 17"? ITS HUGE) that I ordered by accident (long story) it doesn't fit anymore.

One thing I have noticed about sturdy leather bags are that they are a bit heavy; so I would vote the small horizontal bag, if you are carrying papers in files like you have stated (so I like #1); ps: the bags are gorgeous and I love the brand-name. Reminds me of James Bond's Man With the Golden Gun!

I like the medium retro one. It looks big enough to hold quite a bit of stuff and wouldn't overwhelm you. I think by the time I filled a large one, it would be too hard to carry.

Lots of different suggestions here! Thanks for being so helpful ladies I've narrowed it down between the small satchel and the medium retro. Now I'm hoping to go to the mall and try out some satchels just to see how they feel!
