1. Tan pants/brown shirt/whit cardi. Buttoned the way Shiny suggested. These pants are the Jean Star pants discussed in another thread. Do you think they are too wide legged for me?

2. Vamp on this Shoe? Is this shoe skirt wearable? Does that high strap negate the lower vamp?

3. Side view of same shoe.

4. Casual Walk Short Option. I had to do some schlepping at work and dressed for the occassion: The shorts are too big though, I spent all day pulling them back up. I'm giong to send them back to mom for more alterations (she just shortened them from capris). I seldom wore this top because it was sort of see thru (It's a cheapy). But Tanya's suggestion of wearing white cami under solved that.

5. This is the bright blue BR buttonless cardi. (This is what I wore today) except I changed the pants to khaki walking shorts because the pants are all worn out. too big, and look sloppy. Time to throw them out!

Nicole, the first outfit is in my opinion absolutely perfect! It's very flattering, especially the way you buttoned the cardigan.
The shoes- I believe the vamp is fine, but that strap is confusing me. I guess you'll have to wait for someone else with the better eye for that.
The walk shorts outfit is very cute, too. O can't say from the photo that the shorts are too big, but you should definitely alter them if that's the case.
I love the blue BR cardi on you! And I also agree on those cargo pants with you.

Since I suggested the way to button the first cardigan, you know what I'll say already.

I personally like this way of buttoning, because it really draws all the attention to your waist and defines it.

I *love* the blue cardi. It is a wonderful color on you, and I like the length of it. And I like this one unbuttoned (though admit I'm curious what would happen if you just buttoned one button under the chest.)

As for the jean star pants question - I'll let others chime in. I often have fit problems with pants so I'm not the best to ask on this one. Although I will say I'm guessing you and I have similar issues - the slim hip thing. I do think the pants are a great length though.

The shoes: I think they are really cute, and they look comfy. One of my favorite looks for shoes is the white stitching thing. The ankle strap thing can be a challenge. It can shorten the look of your leg. But, I wear these anyway (okay, I have *one* pair of heels like this - my red patent ones). I either wear them under pants (where it doesn't matter) or I'm just really ultra particular about the length of my skirt. To my eye, shorter skirts look better.

Nicole, I love the layered look on you! both buttoned white cardi and unbuttoned blue cardi look great. I actually like the outfit with the blue cardi better because the dark shell under it makes you slim and tall, the lengths are perfect too.

For the pants in the first outfit, I feel it's too long. The length of the cargo pants looks just right to me.

I echo what everyone said above (I think the pants in the first photo are a bit too long--but better than too short!), and I especially like the cardigans on you. I really like cardis on you, Nicole. I think you should definitely invest in more of them, and in more colors as well. I'm not usually a fan of that buttoning style of the cream cardi, but on you, it really works. Nice!

Blue should be your color, Nicole. You look amazing in it. I really like the first outfit as well. Shiny's suggestion was quite brilliant, unsurprisingly. The pants also fit you very well.

I don't think the strap on the shoes matter. Your instep is still getting some exposure, and these shoes are more dainty.

Nicole, our forum member with the BEST flippy hair! Are you wearing your new bra? Bust line looks fantastic.

1. First outfit is wonderful! Love the way you buttoned the cardigan and the fact that it’s white. That’s the way to do brown for Summer. Adding that crisp element. Pants are a tad too long but certainly not too wide. They look great.
2. I do not prefer these shoes for skirts. The horizontal strap cuts your long lean line.
3. Nice casual outfit. Shortening your capris worked well.
4. LOVE you in blue. That BR cardi is fabulous on you. Get more of this colour.

Julia hit the nail on the head. Wearing something dark under something light is very flattering. Cardis are becoming a signature look I see!

Nicole, that first outfit is super. You've got the cardi-layering-and-buttoning down It's very flattering. The only suggestion I have is to add a little burst of color somewhere in the outfit, e.g. replace the shoes with a pair in a bright color, or the necklace (I don't see it very well but it doesn't look bright.)

And love the blue cardi. Might it even work in the first outfit instead of the white one? I'm not sure, just a suggestion to try it out...

Angie, no I was not wearing my new bra in any of the photos. Maybe I'll post two photos in the same top, but the old and new bra, and see if you guys can tell which is which.

Antje, I definately need to get some colorful shoes workin'. I've been focusing on the clothes and making due with the shoes I have. (Though in one photo, I'm wearing orange sandals!)

I have to thank Shiny for the cardi buttoning suggestion. It definately made a big difference in my torso.

Angie, are all mary janes bad for skirts or just the kind that have the strap up high? Lately I have seen a lot of ladies in somewhat sportier mary janes instead of athletic sneakers for their commute in skirts and I was thinking of getting a pair myself to wear all day, though it would be more casual than smart casual. I would have to have the strap a bit far back because otherwise the shoe will slip off.

I think the general style of these works with shirts, but it's quite casual. The Naturalizers you linked are pretty sporty; are these really your style, Maya? (I remember your rants about sandals that looked too hippie or something to you, and I think these shoes -while I personally would love them for going on walks or to the playground- might not be totally "you". Just food for thought

Good question Maya. Not all mary janes are bad for skirts. The straps on those particular shoes are a little closer to the toe box, which is more flattering, but body type will also play a role.If you want to guarantee a long lean line, stay away from the straps.

The women I have been seeing in those sportier shoes don't look sporty at all (whether or not they are) because they pair them with smarter pieces. I think the black ones look a notch above the other colors.

I think I'll get over the long lean line thing if they're comfortable enough. My legs are long enough anyway.

Maya. I have a similar pair from Skechers in silver and I do occasionally wear them with super-casual skirts, but they do shorten mu leg line a bit. However, I do have short legs to begin with, and since you don't have that problem, they might work much better for you! Love those red MJs by the way.

I think it might be a good compromise, Maya. In a perfect world, you would wear the shoes you want to wear with skirts. But you have feet issues and you have to wear *something* on your feet!

Thanks for the links Dani. I can't wear heels at all, unfortunately. I actually have those Sofft shoes in my shopping basket on 6pm.com, but I think I need to skip over them. I tried the Sofft Pilar flats once and they were one of the most uncomfortable flats I have ever tried, and these are basically the same but with a strap. In fact I am extremely disappointed with Sofft in general. I also ordered the Raya sandal and it was incredibly uncomfortable, even though it looked foolproof online. Sofft also tends to make very stiff shoes in my experience, which I find very ironic. It's very unfortunate for me because I find a lot of their shoes really cute.

I'm also thinking Campers. Not sure if they are widespread in the States, they're big in Europe and usually very comfortable. I own a pair or red loafers I bought in Spain years ago: perfect. And I've had a pair of black knee-high boots for 8 years now, wear them all winter long, they still look great and I don't even feel I have them on. In fact I bought them during a long day of shopping, the shoes I wore that day were hurting my feet, against my better judgement I changed into the Camper boots: they immediately felt marvelous and I walked in them for more than 5 hours that day and have never looked back.

Campers are not cheap, but they last for years, and they have quite a few fun styles that might appeal to you. So if you would find a pair your feet are happy with, I'd definitely recommend them.

Sorry Maya, I have a couple of Sofft sandals that are pretty comfortable but I will definitely keep that in mind when making future purchases.

That's just my experience with Sofft, and keep in mind I have pretty exceptional circumstances. If they work for you by all means keep buying them.

Inge, Aerosoles are not wide enough for me unfortunately. I have seen Camper shoes in stores here and I absolutely love them! I might save my pennies for a pair if they feel good. They definitely have my quirky style. I absolutely LOVE these shoes and the concept behind them! If I could afford them I'd buy them in a heartbeat. I don't know if they would be comfortable but it would be worth it to try.

Yes me too, those are fabulous (lots more of funky styles in their e-shop as well), and Maya: for me they are very comfortable, but of course all feet are different and I know you have problems finding a good fit. But if you get a chance to try them, then go for it.
(I usually go a size up in Campers by the way)

I have had my feet in those exact Campers, Maya. (it must be our similar taste again *smiling*). They looked fabulous. My feet were not happy with the strap though. Sigh. So I regretfully put them back. But I am an avid Camper supporter.

I think my feet handle straps pretty well, but the slightly pointed toe concerns me. I'm hoping that I can size up if necessary and the strap will help hold it on my foot, but it doesn't appear to be adjustable. I am sooo smitten with those shoes though.
